TO ALL WHOM IT M AY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE N. CUMMINGS, of Providence, in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement upon Springs for Eye-Glasses; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full and exact description thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. i i
The nature of myinvention consists in the employmentvof guides formed of metal, and attached to the rims of the glasses. The spring which connects the rims passes through the guides, the ends of the spring being fastened to the rims at a proper distance from the guides.
The object of this invention is to allow a. free motion to the springs, making them easier for the wearer and less liable to break than those heretofore in use.
To enable those skilled in theart to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
The drawing is a. perspective view of my invention;
A A represent the rims, which enclose the glasses; B, Athe spring, which connects the rims and clasps the nose of the wearer when in use; C C, pieces of horn or shell; D D, joints closed with u. screw conning the the glassesjn place, and fastening the ends of the spring; E E, metal guides soldered 'to the rims, and through which the spring B passes loosely.
What I cla-im as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The employment or use of the guides E E, when operated in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
