UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL O. CONNERS, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
LUG STRAP AND HOLDER.
SEEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 678,311, dated July 9, 1901.
Application led October 30, 1900. Serial No. 34,918. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL O. CoNNERs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Lug Strap and Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to looms,
and particularly to means for connecting the lug-stick and picker-stick, the object being to provide simple and durable means for this purpose applicable to the various forms of looms now in general use.
With the above object in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the lug and pickersticks provided with my improved connecting means; Fig. 2, an edge View, partly in section, of the lug-stick and connecting` means carried thereby; and Fig. 3, a perspective View of the holder for the flexible supporting-strap.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, A designates the picker-stick, and B the lug-stick. Positioned upon opposite sides of the lug-stick and projecting from one end thereof are the metallic plates C, which are adj ustably secured to the lug-stick by means of a bolt D,passin g through slots E, formed in the plates, and receiving a clamping-nut F. The outer ends of the plates are connected by a block Gr, secured in position by a bolt H and nut I. This block in the present instance is formed of leather, but may be formed of any similar flexible material, such as rubber, or even of wood. The picker-stick works between the plates in the spaces between the block and the end of thev lug-stick, as illustrated, and for supporting the outer end of the lug-stick the usual flexible strap J is provided, said strap in the present instance passing around the block G and having its two ends clamped between the end bars of a frame K, adj ustable upon the pickerstick. This frame surrounds the picker-stick and is secured in its adjustment thereon by a pressure-plate L and a clamping-screw M, passing through frame K and bearing against the plate. This plate is provided with lugs or projections N, which move upon the upper and lower edges of the frame.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided improved connecting means for the lug and picker stickswhich is adjustable and does not cut or wear the iiexible supporting-strap and which is also very durable.
Having thus fully described my invent-ion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In a loom, the combination `with the picker and lug sticks, of plates secured to the opposite sides of thelugestick and projecting from one end, a block connecting the outer ends of said plates, a picker-stick moving in the space between said block and the end of the lug-stick, and a `flexible strap passing around said block and carried by the pickel'- stick, substantially as described.
2. In a loom, the combination with the lug and picker sticks, of plates secured to opposite sides of the lug-stick and projecting beyond one end thereof and receiving the picker- 'stick therebetween, a block of leather or similar material connecting the outer ends of said plates, and a flexible strap passing around said block and secured to the pickersticlz, substantially as described.
