Be it known that I, EDGAR FRANKLIN OAR- SON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in combination game-boards; and the principal object of my invention is to produce a board having pockets in its corners and to provide each ot the pockets with a detachable corner strip or barrier, whereby when these strips are in position the objects used in playing the game cannot enter the pockets Vand when the strips are removed games in which the pockets are used may be played.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear hereinafter, and I will proceed to describe myinvention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a plan view of a game-board constructed in accordance with myinvention, showing three of the detachable strips in position and one of them .removed from the board. Fig. 2 is a broken-away sectional View taken on line a b of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective View of one of the detachable strips. Fig. 4V is a transverse section of the same.

2 designates the board'proper, and Sdesignates side rails, which are secured to the edges of the board in any preferred manner. As shown in Fig. 2, these rails extend above and below the board. The side shown in Fig. I will be termed the top, although the vboard is reversible, and certain games may be played on the opposite side.

Four cushions 4 are secured to the inner faces of the rails 3, respectively, on top of the board. These cushions do not extendto the corners ot' the board, but are cut olf, as shown in Fig. l.

In each corner of the board is formed a triangular opening 5, provided with a pocket secured to the edges of the opening in any preferred manner.

With each board I provid'efour detachable corner-strips 6, one of which is shown in detail in Fig. 3. The construction of the strip is further shown in Fig. 4, from which it will be seen that the strip comprises two strips 6 7, one being rectangular in section and the other substantially as shown. Strip 7 is covered with felt or the like, and cushioning material 8 is held between the felt coveri-ng and the beveled face of the strip. Strips 6 7 are secured together by nails,- screws, or pins. The cushions 4 have the same or substantially the same construction as that of the cushion-strip 7 just described. To the upper faces vof each of two of the strips 6 is a counting-plate 9, having perforations therein and a series of numbers adjacent to the perforations. These perforations extend also into the strips 6. These two plates are duplicates, one of them being represented in Fig. 3. Secured to the upper faces of the other two strips, respectively, are two counting-plates 10, provided with perforations and numbers; but the number of perforations in these plates is less than in the plates 9. The long plates 9 are for keeping count of points won or lost. The short plates IO are for keeping count of games won.

Five spots are arranged in the center of the board, as shown, for marking positions of pins or balls used in certain games.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

In a game-board provided with corner-pockets, a detachable corner -strip comprising a strip of rectangular sectional shape, a beveled cushion-strip covered with soft material and secured to said rectangular strip, and a strip of elastic material in contact with said beveled strip, opposite said rectangular strip, and within said covering of soft material; substantially as described.
