Be it known that I, CHARLES BURNHAM, ofthe city and county of Philadelphia', State of Pennsylvania., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint-Cans; a-nd I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements -Without; further invention or experinient.

The nature of my invention and improvements consists in wiring or hemming the top edgeof the can with a. Het wire, so als to present a, broad surface to the edge of the cover which shuts outside of the hemV Also, in

and in sameclips or brackets to hol d on the cover,` of the can; and in a. sunken cover for the can, either corrugated or dat. In the accompanying drawing- Figure vIl is an elevntion of a paint-can with my improvements.

The upper edge of the cylinder A is hemmed or ,turned over e, flat wire, F, (the end of this wire is shown in section, iig. 2,) to make a broad surface for the outside edge of the cover C to shut against, and to bring the lower edge of the hem below the lower edge of the cover, as shown in the drawings, so that the clips or brackets G G can be hooked under the hem and bent over-the edge of the cover to hohl it on. What I claim as my invention and improvement in paint-cans and other vessels, is Wiring or hemming the top edge of the can with a flat wire, so as to present f1-brood surface to the edge of the cover.

And in combinationwith the aboveclailned improvement, I claim :icover with,the rim bent double, forming a groove, so as to shut against botli the inside 'and outside of the can at the top edge.

And in combination with the'improvements albo-ve claimed, I claim the clips to hold onthe cover'.` I also claim a sunken cover, either corrugated or flat.
