CHARLES ORITTENDEN ORUMRINE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ANDREV WINKEL, OF SAME PLACE.
DETACHABLE SPOUT FOR CANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 676,937, dated J' une 25, 1901. Application filed September 8, 1900. Serial No. 29,415. (No model.)
To all when@ it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES CRITTENDEN ORUMRINE, a citizen of the United States, residingat Oleveland,in the countyofGuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Detachable Spout for Oans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to detachable spouts and covers for vessels; and the object is to produce a spout and cover which may be applied to a vessel for the purpose of preventing splashing of the contents thereof and the falling of foreign substances thereinto and at the same time permit the ready and convenient removal of said contents from the vessel.
With the above object in View the invention consists in the novel features of construe tion hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claim, and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention applied to a vessel. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
The invention consists ofthe collar A,adapt ed to inclose the Walls of the vessel at the upper end thereof and formed intermediately of its upper and lower ends with an inwardlyextending bead B, which rests upon the upper edge of the vessel when the attachment is in position thereon. Said collarA is formed with an outlet-opening at a point above said bead and with a spout O on the exterior thereof. The collar is formed at its upper edge With an inwardly-extending annular flange D, which is inclined toward the center of the-collar, and upon the inner edge of said ange a downwardly-extending annular flange E is provided.
F designates a removable cover formed about its edge with the depending fiange G, adapted to t over the edge of the collar, and with an offset H of the contour of the spout, also provided with a depending flange I. Vhen the cover is in position upon the collar, this offset constitutes a cover for the spout, the flange I fitting around the walls ot' the latter.
The flange E serves to prevent splashing of the contents of the vessel, while flange D, beinginclined, returns any of the contents of the receptacle which may fall thereon back to the vessel.
The removable cover, which is provided with a handle J, serves to prevent foreign substances from passing into the vessel either through the top or spout thereof.
My attachment is especially useful in connection with cans containing paint for preventing the splashing of the paint While being mixed and permitting same to be readily poured from one can to another.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An attachment of the character described, comprising a collar to be applied to the outlet end of a vessel, having at its upper edge an inwardly-extending inclined flange, and a depending ange about the inner edge of the inclined fiange, and formed with an outlet beneath said inclined flange and having a spout upon its exterior in line with the outlet, substantiall y as described.
CHARLES CRIT'IENDEN CRUMRINE.
