Description

UNITED STATES ATENT Fries.
HARRIS LEVY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
REVOLUBLE DRESS-FITTING APPARATUS.
SPECIFIQATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 675,161, dated May 28, 1901. Application filed Tehruaiy 14, 1901. Serial No- 47,2l5. (N0 model.)
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIS LEVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in a Revoluble Dress-Fitting Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to an apparatus for fitting and draping dresses; and in such connection it relates to the construction and arrangement of the apparatus for said purpose.
The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a simple, effective, and durable revoluble platform upon which a person, as a lady or miss, may occupy position thereon for having a dress or gown fitted and draped so that the folds or drapings of the dress or gown may have the required pitch and position and the hang or general contouring of the dress or gown may be uniform or regular from an artistic standpoint throughout in the wear, and, second, to provide a revolving apparatus of the character described in which fitting and draping are accomplished therefrom without necessary movement of the person thereon, as the apparatus is readily re,
volved without change of position of the person and the gown or dress fitted and draped and the length uniformly provided for without fatigue to the person being fitted and with the work expedited, due to thefacility with-which the person can be revolved without change of actual position while standing or occupying a position upon the revoluble platform.
My invention, stated in general terms, consists of a revoluble dress-fitting apparatus when constructed and arranged in substantially the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature and characteristic features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- .Figure 1 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in central section, of a revoluble dress or gown fitting and draping apparatus embodying main features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the base portion of the apparatus, showing the circular channelway; and Fig. 3 is an underneath plan view of the bottom of the revoluble platform of the apparatus, showing the pivoted traveler-wheels of the same and the extensible wire or rod for engaging the dress or gown therewith for drapin g the same and artistically forming the folds in the back in the dress or gown.
Referring to the drawings, a is the circular or other shaped base-plate,provided with a series of preferably more or less ornamental legs or feet a for substantially supporting the same, and in the top of the said supported base-plate, near the outer periphery thereof, is provided a channel-way a and extending through the center of the base-plate a is a vertical opening a lined with a flanged metal sleeve a to form a bearing for the partiallythreaded pivot 11 of a revoluble circular platform I), provided with a series of rollers b at suitable distances apart and secured to the bottom of said platform. These rollers are adapted to travel in the said channel-way o The lower threaded portion of the pivot b of the platform-b is provided with a tightening or jam nut b for permitting of a quick or slow circular movement, as may be desired, of the platform when a person is positioned upon the platform for having a dress or gown fitted and draped to such person. The periphery of the platform I) is provided with a rather deep groove, as at 19 so as to provide rather sharp edges 12 and b to serve as guides for inserting pins or the like into the fabric parallel with either of these guides to insure uniformity in length throughout of the dress or gown. This is important, because most persons are round-shouldered and droop more to one side than to the other, and by having such guides this can be readily compensated for and a uniform artistically-apportioned dress or gown in length and in the draping of the same insured. Moreover, the train and folds of the dress or gown can be accomplished with the requisite degree by the shifting outward or inward, as required, of the bent or how wire or rod 0 in its bearings c and 0 secured to the under side of the platform I), as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, to insure the proper apgle of inclination in the draping of the back of the dress or gown while hein g worn, so that the desirable artistic efiects, from the dressmakers standpoint, can be attained and maintained in the fitting of the finished dress or gown.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A dress-fitting stand, comprising a fixed base-plate, a revoluble platform supported on the base-plate and adapted to extend upward into the skirt, the rim or periphery of said platform being grooved or hollowed out to provide two edges upon which the skirt rests to permit of the insertion of pins into the skirt between said edges, a series of rollers projecting downward from the platform and resting upon the base-plate, means for adjusting the distance between the platform and base-plate to increase or decrease the friction between the rollers and base-plate, and a skirt-distender movably connected with said platform, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A dress-fitting stand, comprising a fixed base-plate, a platform supported upon the base-plate by means of rollers interposed be tween the platform and base-plate, said rollers projecting from the platform and adapted to elevate the platform some distance above and to permit the platform to revolve upon the base-plate, and a skirt-distender, comprising a bent wire or rod adapted to slide between the platform and base-plate, said wire or red being adjustable toward or away from the center of the platform in guides formed on the under surface of said platform, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscrily ing witnesses.
