Description

JOHN J. SOHEPP, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMPOSITION FOR ADDING TO LITHOGRAPHIC INK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,552, dated March 12, 1901.
Application filed July 31, 1900. Serial No. 25,432., (No specimens.)
T0 wZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN J. SOHEPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Composition of Matter for Use in Connection with Lithographic Ink, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My composition consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions specified, namely: tallow, twenty parts; lard, sixty parts; beeswax, ten parts; oil of lavender, two parts; starch, eight parts. These ingredients are thoroughly mingled by agitation or in any desired manner, and when thus mingled the resulting compound is in practice mixed with lithographic ink, as hereinafter described.
The object in mixing this compound with lithographic ink is to maintain the strength of the colors; also,to prevent the ink from blistering or peeling and to keep or maintain the tints on the stone and to enable the pressman to get a smooth solid impression with less ink than is otherwise employed.
When yellow or red colors are desired, one ounce of the compound is mixed with five pounds of ink and one ounce of varnish of any desired thickness, as may be found to produce the best results, and if black or brown colors are desired one ounce of the compound is mixed with five pounds of the ink, and enough boiled linseed-oil is added to produce the required thickness of the ink, and if any of the colors pile or dry on the rollers a little more of the compound is added.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described composition of matter, consisting of tallow, lard, beeswax, oil of lavender, and starch, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The herein-described composition of matter, consisting of tallow twenty parts, lard sixty parts, beeswax ten parts, oil of lavender two parts, and starch eight parts, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 28th day of July, 1900.
JOHN J. SCHEPP.
