TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, MYRON H. SPAULDING, of Morrisville, Lamoille county, State of Vermont, have invented new and useful improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, exhibiting the mode of operating the beater-s.
Figure 2-is a top view of the churn, exhibiting the heaters.
The nature of my invention consists in the constructionoof double plates of metal, forming a box with a movable face plate, in which changeable gearing is operated, so that the heaters may receive a slow, rapid, or reversemotion, and the gearing being enclosed is prevented from injuring the operators hand, and churning may be accomplished by a child.
A represents the square box'eontaining the double beaters B B. C is a solid metallic plate, permanently fastened to the outside of box A, with hinged ends D D, projecting outward. A face plate, E, of metal, corresponding with the shape of rear plate C, fits into the ends D D, and is held by pins F F firmly to its place, forming a metallic box. In this metallic box are three cog-wheels Gr H I, of the same size, the axles of G and I operating in the sides of the box and the ends of the axles of the heaters B. The outer end of axle G is squared so as to be operated by the crank, J, which, by the revolution of the three wheels'G H and I, gives a rapid motion to the heaters B. A pinion-wheel, K, is located in the box, and gears into the wheels G and H, having its square axle projecting outside of the face plate E, to be operated on by the crank J, when a slow motion is required to be given to the heaters B, and also to collector gather the butter.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction of the plates G and E, forming a metallic box, containing changeable gearing G and K, when arranged and combined with double heaters, as herein de cribed and for the purposes set forth.
MYRON H. SPAULDING.
