Be it known that we, JOHN H. EMERY and WILLIAM H. STEWART, Jr., citizens of the United States, residing at Glaysville, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have in ven ted new and useful Improvements in a Combination Butcher-Knife and Saw, of which the following is a speciiication.
Onr invention relates to a combination knife and saw adapted especially for the use of butchers; and the object is to provide a combination device of this character which will conveniently serve the purpose in View and avoid the necessity of using two separate implements.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
ln the drawings, Figure l is a side eleva tion of a combination knife and saw embodying our invention, the adjustability of the saw being illustrated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective showing the saw in position for use.
The reference-numeral l designates a knifeblade the shank of which is secured to a handle comprising two plates or sections 2, secured together by a rivet 3, which also secures the knife-blade to the handle. The handle-sections 2 extend above the upper edge of the knife-blade, and between the upwardly-extending edges of the sections 2 is pivoted a saw-blade il by means of a pivot 5. The rear end of the knife-blade shank is beveled, as shown at 6, to serve as a stop for the saw, as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Between the sections 2 of the handle are arranged bent springs 7 and 8, whose function is to clamp the saw-blade 4 and retain it in the closed position shown in Fig. l.
The knife l is formed adjacent to its outer end and on the upper side or edge thereof with parallel ears or lugs 9, which serve as guards for the outer end of the saw.
The utility of the combination implement constructed as above described will be readily understood and appreciated from the accompanying illustrations, and the device may beinanufactured at small expense.
Ve claiml. A combination butcher-knife and saw comprising a knife-blade formed at one end with projecting lugs or guards, and beveled at its opposite end; a handle to which the knife-blade is secured; and a saw pivotally secured within the handle and adapted to be turned to rest against the inclined end of the knife-blade- 2. A combination butcher-knife and saw comprising a knife-blade formed at one end With projecting lugs or guards; a handle; spring-clamps arranged Within the handle; and a saw-blade adapted to be held in closed position by said spring-clamps and to be turned into position for use.
In testimony whereof We aiiix our Signatures in presence of two witnesses.
