Application filed August 14,1899. Serial No. 727,210. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYLVESTER S. WEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Avondale, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Dinner-Bucket, of which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to dinner-buckets; and it has for one object to provide a compact receptacle for different articles of food and utensils in which the temperature of cooked food may be approximately maintained and in which, moreover, the temperature of such food may be raised to the desired pointwithout removing it from the bucket.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction in which the different articles of food may be kept separate and in which a liquid, such as soup or a beverage, maybe carried without injury to or from the solid-food matter, and, furthermore, in which the lid may be employed as a plate.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of a bucket embodying the invention. Fig.'2 is a .transverse vertical section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the parts of the bucket dissembled with the covering omitted.
Referring now to the drawings, 5 represents the main or body portion of the bucket, which is preferably oblong in plan and centrally of the ends of which and preferably on the outer faces are fixed upwardly-extending ears 6, having perforations for the reception of the ends of a bail 7, which ends are provided with upturned extremities adapted toprevent a displacement of the bail accidentally and at the same time permitting Withdrawal thereof when desired and for a purpose which will be presently explained.
A cover 8 for the receptacle 5 is provided and has a downwardly-extending flange 9 set slightly inwardly from its periphery, and which flange is adapted to engage the inner face of'the upper edge of the receptacle or body portion 5, with that portion of the cover outside of the lange resting upon the upper edge of the body.
Upon the inner face of the body portion 5 and at the bottom thereof is arranged a series of brackets or supports 10, upon which is disposed a removable compartment 1l, which is itself divided into a major and a minor compartment 14 and 15, respectively. The lower portion of the compartment 15 is adapted to receive a drinking-cup and condimentil holders, as indicated in ldotted lines in Fig. 1, the compartment 15 having an inwardlydirected flange 1G, upon which is disposed a cover 17 for the lower portion of said compartment, and which cover is provided with ar central perforation 18, adapted for the' reception of a nger to remove the cover. That portion of the compartment 15 above the cover 17 is adapted to receive any desired article of food in a solid form. l
Brackets 20 are arranged adjacent the floor of the compartment 14, and upon these brackets is disposed a vessel 21, conforming in shape and dimensions to the compartment 14E and adapted to receive any desired article of food. The vessel 21 has fixed upon its inner faces and flush with the upper edges thereof brackets 22, upon which brackets and upper edges is disposed a cover 23, having a lingeropening 24. therein. l
Upon the cover 23 is disposed parallel dishes 25, which reach to a point adjacent to the top of the compartment 14. `and above which is disposed a iinal dish or vessel 26, having outwardly-curved flanges 27 at its upper edges adapted to engage the Vupper edges of the compartment 14 and to depend therefrom, said vessel having alongitudinal partition 30,
dividing it into two compartments 31 and $32,
of which the former is adapted to receive any desired article of food and the latter to receive a knife, fork, and spoon or similar imupper edge and bottom, said casing having a cover 36, provided with slots 37, through which the ears G are projected previous to the attachment of the bail 7. The lid 36 is hingedly connected with the bodyportion 35, and thus when in its lowered position, as shown in the drawings, the ears G may pass through corresponding slots in the cover and may be then engaged by the endsof the bail 7, which engagement will act to prevent raising of the lid or cover of the casing and will enable the device to be transported from place to place with little labor.
Upon reference to Figs. l and 2 ofthe drawings it will be seen that the ears 0 are sc cured upon the outer surface of the body port-ion5 and that they extend outwardly and upwardly therefrom, these upwardly-extending portions engaging the inner surface of the casing. The ears are passed through the opening in the lid of the casing, after which the ends of the bail are engaged with the ears. The casing is thus held in a measure by its frictional engagement with the ears, and at the same time the body portion of the casing is held by the lid, the positions ot the parts being such that the body portion of the casing in its tendency to swing downwardly engages the front of the main vessel 5. In this way the casing is held in position.
It will be understood that in practice the various parts of the device may be varied in material and construction and that if the contents of the bucket become cold the asbestes easing may be removed and the entire apparatus set upon a stove and heated to the desired temperatme. In this operation it will be understood that the casing 35 is removed and also the heating will be facilitated by the steaming of the beverage or otherliquid in the bottom of the vessel 5, during which operation the excess of steam may cscape through a perforation 38 adjacent the upper edge of one wall of the vessel 5, and which perforation or opening may have a suitable closure. Moreover, it will be noted that when the dii'erent parts of the bucket are dissembled they will make efficient dishes, including the cover 8, and also it will be appreciated that in practice the materials and proportions may be varied as desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed isl. AV dinnerbucket, comprising a main or body portion having a cover, a receptacle arranged therein and separated therefrom by an interspace, an opening in the upper portion of the side of the body portion, said opening communicating with the interspace and having a movable closure, a partition in said receptacle, forming a compartment, and a plurality of vessels within said compartment.
2. A dinner-bucket comprising a main or body portion, a receptacle disposed therein and separated therefrom by an interspace, a partition for said receptacle, and a vessel within the receptacle and having, an outturned flange engaging the upper edges of the receptacle and partition, and a cover for the body portion having a flange adapted to lie between the body portion and the receptacle therein.
3. A dinner-bucket, comprising a main or body portion, a receptacle supported Within the body portion, a cover for the body portion having a fiange disposed between the body portion and said receptacle, brackets within the receptacle, a vessel supported upon said brackets, a cover for the vessel, additional vessels supported upon the cover, and a vessel having ou ttu rned ilanges engaging the upper edges of said receptacle and su pported thereby.
4. A dinner-bucket', comprising a main or body portion having brackets therein, a receptacle supported upon said brackets and separated from the body portion by interspaces, a cover having a flange disposed bctween the body portion and receptacle, a partition in the receptacle forming compartments, brackets in each compartment, a cover upon the brackets of one compartment, a vessel upon the brackets of the second compartment, a cover for said vessel, additional vessels supported upon the cover of the lastnamed vessel, and a vessel having flanges engaging upper edges of the receptacle and supported thereby.
5. A dinner-bucket comprising a main or body portion, a receptacle within the body p01'- tion and separated therefrom by an interspace, anopening in the side of the body portion communicating with said interspace, a plurality of vessels supported within the body portion, and a easing inclosing the bodyportion to prevent radiation of heat therefrom, said casing covering the body portion andthe opening thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto ailixed mysignaturein the presence of two witnesses.
