SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,307, dated May 22, 1900. Application iiled September l, 1899.l Serial No. 729,222. (No model.)
being of great brilliancy with economy of consumption of oil, while novel and striking effects are produced, the flame having very much the appearance ofv the present wellknown incandescent gas-burner with mantle,
although no mantle is used or intended to be used with the present invention, and by this invention an incandescent-like mantleless oillamp is thus produced with great brilliancy of light.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which the present invention is illustrated, Figure l is a view in elevation of a circularwick hydrocarbon-burner, partly in section.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken' through the diameter of said circular-wick oil burner. burner. Fig. 4. is a separate View of the central cone or restrictor for use in the central air-passage of said oil-burner. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing a modified form and arrangement of the interior reL strictor cone and iiame spreader. Fig. 6 shows another modiiication of the cone and flame-spreader thereon, and Fig. 7 shows still another modification. Fig. 8 is aview in elevation of a complete lamp constructed according to the present invention, with an ornamental open-work restrictor BX instead of the wire-gauze restrictor B shown in Figs. l and 5.

`VVit-hin the inner wick-tube vF is arranged and mounted a suitable restrictor I-I or means to regulate the central draft passing up the inside of the inner wick-tube F to the interior of the flame, such restrictor H being advantageously in the form shown in Fig. 4.- namely, the lowermost part thereof adapted to fit closely inside the wick-tube F and rest on a shoulder F', formed inside said tube F, and then said restrictor H is formed tapered and perforated at H and at the upper part thereof is closed by the cap or cover H2, and, if desired, the upper part of said device H may be expanded or provided with a disk or a ange, such as HX, or other flame-expander adapted to tend to spread the ame outward, the position of this top of the re- IOO strictor H. being substantially on a levelwith the top edgeof 'the hoodD, or i ust below same, or thereabout. The combination of a straight-through cylindrical chimney with acireular-wick oilburnerhaving a hood such as D extending i' above the topy of the wick-tubes, a restrictor such as B acting i-n conjunction with an anjnular inwardly-projecting ange such as G 5 arranged below the top of the wick-tubes to regulate the supply of air to the exterior of i the llame and a restrictor such as H to regulate the air-supply tothe interior of the amejact- `ing inconjunction with a dame-spreader, such as HX disposed at or near the' level of the top of thel hood D substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. A circular-wick oil-burner consistingof the combination'with circular-wick tubes, of

- above the exterior air-inlet restrictor but below the top of the Wick-tubes to regulate the air-supply to the exterior of the flame, a restrictor in the central air-passage to regulate the air-supply to the interior of the llame, and a flame-spreader centrally located at or near the level of the top of the hood, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.

The combination with a circular-Wick oil-burner, having a hood D extending above the top of the wick-tubes, an exterior restrictor B, and an annular inwardly-projecting flange arranged below the top of the wicktubes, acting in conjunction Withsaid restricter B to regulate the supply of air to the exterior of the flame; of a conical restrictor mounted within the wick-tubes to regulate the supply of air to the interior of the Haine,

The combination of a straight-through cylindrical chimney, with a circular-wick oilburner having a hood D extending above the top of the wick-tubes, an exterior restrictor B acting in conjunction with an annular inwardly-projecting ange G arranged belowT the top of the Wick-tubes to regulate the supply of air to the exterior of the flame, and a restrictor H to regulate the air-supply to the interior of the anie acting in conjunction with a llame-spreader H2 centrally disposed at or near the level of the top or the hood D substantially as and for the scribed.
