TO'ALL WHOMIT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J'. S. FIFIELD, of Westerly, in the county of Washington, and in the State of Rhode Island, have invented vcertain new and use ful improvements in Coal Buckets for Sifting the Coal and Ashes g and do hereby declare that the following is a full; clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making' partof this speeieation, A represents a box, which is provided with a. movable top B', a drawer C, and a. doorway at D. The cover B isprovided with a hinged door, B. E represents a. wheel, which is formed of two annular plates placed at a. proper distance apart and covered with gauze wire, the gauze wire forminggthe periphery of the wheel. The' wire does not extend entirely around the wheel, but partially so, leaving a.A doorway. shaft, F, passes through the centre of this wheel frein side to side, and has its bearings in. the' sides o'f the box A. G represents a partition which is placed in thewheel E,'.extending from one edge or sidelof the doorway into the wheel in the direction represented, land having its inner end turned in slightly. Beneath the wheel E is placed an inclined sieve, H, which Aleads to the doorway at D. Beneath the sieve is placed a drawer, C, which is intendedfor catching the ashes as they fall from the coal eine ders. In useing this rnachine, the doorl B` is lifted, and the coal cinders are poured in to the wheel E through` its doorway. The wheel E is then removed so that the cinders will strike against the partition G, whichthrows 'them back upon the gauae-wire'peripheryjof the wheel. The coal cannot leave the wheel E as long as the said wheel is revolved, so that it will strike the partition G, and is consequently carried around and around in theI lwheel until thoroughly cleansed of ashes. The ashes as they leave 4the cinders fall through the gonne-wire screen and through the screen H into drawer C. When the cinders have been properly sifted, the wheelE hais its motion reversed, and they run out.of the opening in the wheel'and fall upon screen H, and thence pass out of the box throughdoor at D.
Having thus fully describedmyinvention, what I claim is l The arrangement of the box A with wheel E, as constructed, sieve-H, spout D, and drawer C, in the manner and foi-'the purposes substantially as set forth. l
I In testimnyfthat I claim'the foregoing, I have hereunto set myv hand and seal this twentieth (lay of Feb; ruary, 1867,
, JOHN S. FIFIELD.'
