TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, D. B. BAKER, of Rollersville, in the county of Sandusky, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Metallic Clasp'or Tie for Bags; and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvements by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a'similar class, together with such parts as I claim, and desire tohave secured to me by Letters Patent.

This invention is designed to supersede the cords, strings, and thongs now employed for tying bags.

The invention consists of a metallic clasp composed of two semicircular parts, connected at one end by a link, and secured around the bag by a hook on the opposite end of one part fitting in one of a series of holes in .the other part. By'this simple device a filled bag may have its open end secured or tied with far greater facility than by a string, cord, or thong, and without the liability of the bag becoming casually opened. In the accompanying sheet of drawings I Figure 1 is a side view of a filled bag having my invention applied to it.

A A represent two semicircular metal s'trips connected at one end by a wire link, B, which serves as a hinge or joint for the strips, (see fig. 2.) This link B passes through the bag and through a piece of leather, a, or other tough or firm material, which is sewed or otherwise attached to the bag, the leather or other material preventing the link from tearing out from the fabric of which thebag is made.

The opposite ends of the strips A A- are fastened together, when the bag is to be tied, by the following means: The strip A is punched or perforated with three cuts which form three sides of a square, and the metal included within these cuts is bentinward and curved to form a hook, I), and the other strip A is perforated with a series of holes, a, any one of which may receive the hook I). By this arrangement the clasp may be made to firmly encompass the open end of the bag and securely close it, as shown in fig. 1, and the two parts of the clasps may be hooked together with far greater facility than a cord or string can be tied around the bag. The device may be constructed at a very moderate cost. In order to facilitate the adjustment of the hook I; in the holes 0 and the withdrawing of it therefrom, the outer end of the strip A may be curved outward, as shown at d, to form a finger-piece, as shown clearly in fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secui'e by Letters Patent- The metallic clasp for bags, constructed, as described, consisting of the semicircular parts A A, whose wide sides rest against the bag, connected at one end by the link B, the opposite ends fastened by means of the triangular projections 12 catching into the perforations e, the part A provided with the finger-rest d, as'herein shown and described.
