IMPROVED MOP-HEAD.
fiiigt fiflphnle mantis it time new 35mm in making with flge same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MEADER, of PrairieCentre in the county of La Salle, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful improvement in Mop-Heads; and. I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and figures marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My said invention consists in a simple and novel mode of constructing a mop-head, whereby the cloth or material forming the mop is easily and readily secured in the mop-head, and as readily detached therefrom, as is hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art tou'ndcrstand how to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with particularity, .inaking reference in so doing to the aforesaid drawings, in which- Figure. 1 represents a front view of my invention; and
Figure 2, a side or edge view thereof.
Similar letters of reference in the difi'erent figures denote the same parts of my invention.
A represents the mop-handle, in the lower end of which is made a slot in which a metallic plate B is arranged, as shown, and rigidly secured by a rivet or bolt, 'b. The said plate B-may, if desired, bc'providcd with the shoulders B, restingagainst the handle, as shown, for the purpose of bracing and strengthening the platcB in its desired position. At and upon each end of the plate B is secured or formed the pins or pivots a a, which pass into or through the ends of the jaw C, enabling said jaw O to open or swing upon said pivots us upon a. hinge, as shown in fig. 2. When said jaw G is open,-as indic ated by the dotted lines in fig. 2, the cloth forming the mop is introduced in a sufiicient quantity, 'so-that when the jaw is closed, as seen in fig. 1, the said mop shall be pressed securely between the edge of the plate and said jaw O, and so held and secured in the mophead. A button, D,'pivoted at d, is then turned into a recess in the side of the jaw, thus locking the parts together and holding them in place. .When it is desired to renew the mop, the button D is turned into the position indicated in dotted lines in fig. 1, unlocking the jaw G and allowing it to open. The movable .jaw may be pivoted, or hinged, or connected to the stationary plate B in any suitable manner, the main point being to so connect it as to allow the said jaw C to move about the edge of the plate B, substantially as described. The arts may be locked together also in any suitablefmanncr by a button, as shown,,or by a slide or clasp, or by any other device, the only point being to provide some suitable catch or spring to secure the parts in the required position when in use. It will be observed that the lower end of the handle A is rounded or bevelled oh, so as not to interfere with the pressure of the jaw upon the cloth composing the mop, the edge of the plate B receiving the pressure throughout.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the handle A, plate 13, jaw C, and latch D, all arranged and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified.
GEORGE MEADER.
