NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KONRAD SOIIMEISSER, OF HERSFELD, GERMANY.
POST FOR BOUNDARIES.
SPECIFICATION forming partv of Letters Patent NO.- 65 5,377, dated August 7, 1900.
Application led December 29, 1899. Serial No. 741,945. (N0 mOGL) To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, KONRAD SoHMEIssER, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Hersfeld, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Posts for Boundaries, of which the following is a speciiication.
My present invention relates to posts for boundaries, and its object is to provide a post of this kind made in two independent parts, of cement or other suitable stone compound, colored or not, in accordance with the purpose for which the device is intended.
The advantages of theinvention will readily appear from the following description, in which reference is made to the accompanying drawing, illustrating one embodiment of the invention in a vertical central section.
The improved post consists of two individual parts, the post proper, A, and the baseblock B. The post proper, A, is preferably made of an elongated cylindrical form and has a spherical lower end b c d, adapted to fit into a hemispherical recess provided in the base-block B, preferably made of rectangular form and the size of which may be varied in accordance with the circumstances of each particular case. When a vehicle or the like runs against such a post the latter is caused to rotate on the base-block B in the manner of a socket-joint, said base-block being in no case displaced from its normal position. When the post A is completely deteriorated, any one of ordinary intelligence may easily substitute another post and place it exactly at the determinate point after removing the earth down to the recess of the base-block B.
In order to set the post exactly at a given point, I drive at this point an iron bar or rod into the ground until the lower end thereof is at a depth of from four to six inches under the point where the base-block is to be located. Then I hollow out the ground around said bar or rod to the level where the base-block is to rest. The latter is then lowered along the iron bar or rod, which passes through the cen tral opening c e, provided in said base-block,- whereupon the bar or rod is withdrawn. Thus the center of the opening c e is in exact coin cidence with the given point; but before Withdrawing the iron bar or rod the base-block is securely rammed into place, whereupon the rounded end of the post A is simply inserted into the recess of said block B.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device of the class set forth, the combination with a base-block having a central hemispherical recess in the same and having a central vertical bore therethrough, of a post having a rounded lower end adapted to fit said hemispherical recess, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
KONRAD SOHMEISSER.
