Be it known that I, HENRY JOHN LAWSON, a subject of the Queen of AGrreat Britain, residing at London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Vehicles, of which the following is aspeciication. y
My invention relates to motor s vehicles which are driven or actuated by explosivemotors; and it has for its object to provide rotating parts of the vehicle or motor or of both the motor and vehicle with fan-blades so constructed and arranged that they or either of them will direct a cooling current of air upon the motor or the parts thereof which become highly heated in consequence of the explosion taking place.
My invention is more particularly adapted for use in connection with the type ot' motorvehicle for which I obtained United States Letters Patent No. 633,014, under date of September 192, 1899, in which the actuating motor is mounted directly upon the propelling-Wheel and in laterally-disposed relation thereto. It may be suicient to provide the propelling-wheel alone with the fan-blades; but I prefer an additional fan on the iiy=wheel of the motor in order that the parts may be cooling during the periods of temporary stoppage of the propelling-wheel, it being Well known that motors of this type are kept in operation during such periods or until astop of any great length is made, and the iiy-wheel may thus be cooling the motor parts during such periods.
My invention will be fully understood upon reference to 'the accompanying drawing, in
`which the figure is a vertical axial section of a propelling-wheel provided with a motor and with my improved coolingfans applied thereto.

I have selected for purposes of illustration a machine constructed in accordance with my Letters Patent No. 633,014, hereinbefore referred to.
To the spokes 5 of the wheel 1 I apply suitable fan-blades 6, which are so set that when the wheel is in rotation a strong current of ner upon the ily-wheel 4; I prefer to haveV this fan secured peripherally upon the iiywheel in substantially thesame plane as the latter. These details, however; may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. In combination with a motor-vehicle having a supporting and propelling groundwheel, a motor mounted laterally to and driving said supporting and propelling groundwheel, and fan-blades mounted upon said supporting and propelling ground-wheel sending a current transversely through the Wheel and motor.
2. In combination with a motor-vehicle having a motor supporting and propelling ground-wheel, a motor laterally disposed thereto and driving the same, a iiy-wheelon the shaft of the motor, and a fan located upon the {1y-Wheel sending a current of air transversely through the motor, for the purpose set forth.
