PATENT COVER FOR GARBAGE-CAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 643,489, dated February 13, 1906.
Application filed October 10, 1898.
To all whom. it ma concern:
Be it known that I, MORIS FISCHER, a citizen of the Empire of Austria-Hungary, residingin the city of New York, in the borough of Manhattan and State of New'York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers for Garbage-Cans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to covers for garbagecans, water-closets, and other like receptacles, the object of the same being to provide in a cover for such uses means for convenientlysupportin g disinfectantin powder form and means for permitting a circulation of air in contact with said disinfectant and the contents of the garbage-can,whereby the strength of the disinfectant neutralizes the offensive odor arising from said contents, so that the can is rendered less objectionable in use than the ordinary garbage-can.
The invention consists of a cover for garbage-cans constructed of an outer closed wall and an inner Wall, said inner wall being provided with a number of perforations, and a disinfectant-receptacle screwed into one of said perforations and provided with a detachable cover at the outside of said inner wall, the bottom of said disinfectant-receptacle being also provided with perforations, and, secondly, of a cover for garbage-cans constructed of an outer closed wall and an inner wall, said innerwall being provided with a number of perforations, and a disinfectantreceptacle attached to said inner wall and provided with perforations communicating with the interior space of the cover between the two walls, and a cover for said disinfectant-receptacle located at the outside of the inner wall and provided with perforations communicating with the air outside of the garbage-can cover.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of a garbage-can, the same being provided with my improved cover hinged thereto and shown in open position, illustratingin bottom view said cover; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of a garbage-can and cover drawn on a larger scale, but with the cover closed on the can and shown likewise in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Serial No. 693,194. (No model.)
Referring to the drawings, A represents a garbage-can of the ordinary construction. To the can A is applied the cover B, either hinged to the can, as indicated in Fig. 1, or made detachable from the same, as may be desired. The cover is made double-walledi. e., it has an outer convex walla and an inner straight Wall 19, a suitable handle 0 being attached to the outer wall. The cover is provided with a downwardly-extending rubber packin g-rin g e,so that when the cover is placed on the can the latter is hermetically closed. The straight inner wall I) of the cover is provided with small holes and with a larger central perforation, into which is screwed a per forated metal box 0, containing disinfectant powder. The cover a of the disinfectant-box is likewise perforated, as shown in Fig. 2. By means of the perforations in the wall I] of the cover B and in the box 0 audits cover the air within the closed garbage-can is permitted to circulate in contact with the disinfectant contained in the box, and thereby the foul odors arising from the garbage are neutralized and destroyed, so that the can is rendered inoffensive in use and may be emptied at any time without inconvenience.
When the strength of the disinfectantpowder in the receptacle becomes spent, by removing the cover 0 the old charge may be readily removed and the receptacle recharged with fresh disinfectant.
I am aware that garbage-can covers in which provision was made for the storage of a disinfectant have heretofore been constructed, and I do not claim, broadly, such construction; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A cover for garbage-cans, constructed of an outer closed wall and an inner wall, said inner wall being provided with a number of perforations, and a disinfectant-receptacle screwed into one of said perforations and provided with a detachable cover at the outside of the inner wall, the bottom of said disinfectant-receptacle being also provided with perforations, substantially as set forth.
2. A coverfor garbage-cans, constructed of an outer closed wall and an inner wall, said inner wall being provided with a number of the air outside of the cover, substantially as perforations, and a disinfeetant-receptacle atset forth.
tached to said inner wall and provided with perforations communicating with the interior space of the cover between the two walls, and 5 a cover for said disinfeetant-receptaole lo- MORIS FISCHER.
