UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARCHIE S. RIDDELL, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
MOP-HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOR SCRUBBlNG-PAILS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 640,701, dated January 2, 1900.
Appllc ation filed April 1 5| 1 8 9 9.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARCHIE S. RIDDELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new mop-holding attachments for pails, buckets,
or other receptacles, my object being to facilitate the hand-wringing of mops by preventing the mop-head from turning during the wringing operation; and to this end the. invention consists of the features hereinafter described and claimed, all of which will be fully understood by reference to the accon1 panying drawing, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof. v
In the drawing, which is a perspective view of a pail equipped with my improvements, let the numeral 5 designate the pail, whose ears or lugs (iwhere they project above the top of the pail are provided with lugs or lateral projections 6, adapted to engage the mop-head and prevent it from turning while the user is wringing the mop-cloths or other mopping material attached to the head.
To the pail is attached an angle-bracket 8, whose horizontal flange 8 engages the floor or other surface upon which the pail rests. The foot of the user is placed upon this flange Serial No. 713,212. (No model.)
to hold the pail securely in place and prevent 40 it from tipping during use.
If it is desired to hold both sides of the mophead, a lever 9, fulcrumed on the pail at 10, may be employed. The upper extremity of this lever is provided with a hook 9 and its lower extremity with a flange 9. When the foot of the user is upon the flange 9, the hook- 9 engages the one side of the mop-head, while the other side is engaged by a hook 6 on the ear or-lug 6, the mop-head being in this case in the position shown by dotted lines in the drawing.
It is evident that my improved attachment may be applied to any kind of a receptacle or support which may be used or conveniently located for mop-wringing purposes.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is- 1. A suitable receptacle provided with a hook or lateral projection ezgtending above the top of the pail and adapted to engage the mop on one side, and a cooperating lever fulcrumed on the pail and having a hook adapted to engage the opposite side of the mop-head.
2. A receptacle provided with a hook or lateral projection extending above the top of the pail and adapted to engage the mop on one side, and a cooperating lever fulcrumed on the pail and having a hook at one extrem-' ity adapted to engage the opposite side of the mop-head, its lower extremity being provided with a foot-flange.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARCHIE S. RIDDELL. Witnesses:
I ALFRED R. DAVIES,
NELLIE G. DANIELS.
