ALBERT J. MARSHALL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
HANc'lY-:R FOR CHARTS 0R MAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 647,143, Cla/ted April 10, 1900. Application filed September 2,1899. Serial No. 729,381. (No model.) l
T0 cir/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, ALBERT J. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iangers for Charts or Maps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in hangers for charts and maps; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my complete invention; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transyerse section of the same, taken on the line :r a: of Fig. l.
The object of my invention is to construct a simple, practical, and durable hanger for charts and maps which when used in connection with the latter will not destroy, deface, or tear the same when turned over the bar or strip to which they are attached, the said charts or maps being provided with elongated openings adjacent to the strip to which the same are attached, whereby the same will freely pass over the hanger after the latter has been detached from a nail or other Xture, thereby dispensing with the cord usually fixed to the opposite ends of the strip in order to hang the maps or charts.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the ordinary strip to which the various sheets comprising the charts or maps are attached Iin the well-known manner, and secured to the medial portion of said strip is a ring 2, which is received by the lower looped end 3 of the hanger 4, the upper end 0f said hanger being also provided with a loop 5, which is adapted to be inserted over a nail or hanger secured to a wall or other support for suspending the maps or charts 6.
Formed in each of the maps or charts 6 and leading from the strip 1is an elongated opening 7, which register with one another, the length of which is sufcient to pass freely over the hanger 4 when the latter is removed from its nail or other hanger for passing one or more of the charts over the strip 1, it being observed that the ring 2 is of a size sufficient to allow the hanger 4 to drop downwardly into position as shown in Fig. 2` of the drawings, whereby the said hanger will freely pass the upper edge of the strip 1 and lie on one side of the same.
From the foregoing description it will readily be seen that it will be impossible to destroy or deface the maps or charts 6 when it is desired to turn one or more of the same over the strip in order to expose others to View or the one desired. v
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- 1. `A hanger for charts or maps, comprising a ring secured to a suitable strip, a hanger movably secured to the said ring, and charts or maps secured to the said strip and provided with openings which register with one another, and of a length to freely pass over said hanger, as and for the purpose described.
2. A chart or map, comprising a strip sheets ALBERT J. MARSHALL.
