EDWARD FITZKI, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. Letters Patent No. 64,653, dated flfay is, 1867.
ENVELOPE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I I
Be it known that I, EDWARD FITZKX, of Washington city, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new mode of preventing letters to be opened without mutilation of the Envelope; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full andexact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I J
The natureof my invention consists in manufacturing an improved envelope of any size, style, or material.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I vill proceed to describe its construction and operation; v I
In the end A I make one incision of one inch, more or less, long, from a to 6, (see Figure 1,) and in the end B two incisions, from c to d, and from c to f, (see fig. 1,) of one-half of an inch, more or less, long, according to the size of the envelope. The parts grand h in B (partly disconnected by the incisions made) I then double up, as shown by 2' in Figure 2, and pass the end B so prepared through, the incision made in A, openg and it out again, and seal the parts A and B down; which I previously preparewith some adhesive substance, as shown by Figure 3. I I
By this mode of sealing and preparing an envelope it is almost impossible to open the same without mutilation thereof, which will be very important in securing letters of value. v
I claim as my invention, and desire to secureby Letters Patent- The application of incisions in the envelope of any size, style, or material, as fully described above.
" EDWARD FITZKI.
