UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN BOORMAN, WAUKESHA, WISCONSlN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ISAAC LAIN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-BOLTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 64,625, dated May 14, 1867.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN BOORMAN, of Waukesha, in the county of VVaukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved RevolvingFlour-Bolt andIdo hereby declare that the following is-a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which-- Figure -l is a transverse vertical section of my invention, taken in the line .10 a, Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section of the same, taken in the line 3 y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. r
This invention consists in constructing the reel in such a manner that it willhavea smooth interior, without any obstructions or projections to interfere with a proper passage of the chop through the bolt. This result is effected by securing the bolting-cloth to the sides of the slats, so as to be even with inner surfaces of the longitudinal slats of the reel-frame, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
A represents the box or case in which the bolt is fitted, and B is the shaft of the reelframe, slightly inclined, as usual, from a horizontal position. G are arms attached radially to the shaft B, and D are slats secured on the ends of the arms 0, parallel with each other and the shaft B. E represents the boltingcloth, which is secured to the slats D in such a manner as to flush with their inner surfaces. This is effected by having the cloth E cut into strips a a trifle wider than the spaces between the slats, so that the edges of the strips at each side may be placed against the sides of the slats, and secured thereto by strips b, nailed or screwed to the slats at each side, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
bran and coarser portions.
The ordinary bolts have the boltin g cloth attached to the outer surfaces of the slats, the latter consequently projecting within the bolt,
and serving, during the rotation of the bolt,
to carry the chop upward, so that it will drop from the top of the bolt, and cause, unless the cloth be very fine, the fine specked portions of the chop to pass through, which gives the flour a specked appearance.
By my improvement this contingency is avoided, the flour in the chop is allowed to pass or slide through the bolting-cloth, and the flour separated from the bran and coarser portions in a perfect manner, and the bolting process is also greatly expedited, as coarser cloth may be used, and the bolt will not require to be as long as those in present use.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .The strips a of the bolting-cloth F, secured to the parallel arms D of the revolving flour; bolt A by means of the strips b, in such a manner that the said strips a shall be flush with the inner surfaces of the said slats D, as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 24th day of March, 1866. BENJAMIN BOORMAN.
