SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,791, dated March 20, 1900.

To aZZ whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, TERENCE F. CURLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Razor- Guard, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved razorguard more especially designed for use on ordinary razors and arranged to allow the user to conveniently, quickly, and accurately adjust the guard-bar relatively to the cutting edge of the razorblade to permit proper shaving and with the utmost safety.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line 3 3 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the guard detached.

lhe razor on which the improvement is applied is provided with the usual handle A and the blade B, near the cutting edge of which extends the guard-bar G of a razor-guard C, removably held on the blade and adapted to be put on either side thereof. The guard-bar O is provided at its middle with an extension C mounted to slide in a guideway 0 having a footpiece bolted, riveted, or otherwise secured to a cross-piece O for connecting the spring clamping-bars O O with each other, said spring clamping-bars being provided near their outer ends with transversely-extending lugs 0 which rest on the top of the razor-blade B and limit the downward movement of the bars 0 O, to engage the sides or faces of the blade 13, as is plainly indicated in the drawings. By the arrangement described the bars 0 O", with the cross-piece C and the lugs 0 form a spring clam pin g-frame adapted to he slipped upon the back of the blade 13, the guideway C extending above either of the two faces of the blade B. In the top of the guideway O is mounted to turn a screw-rod D, screwing in a nut 0?, formed on the upper end of the extension 0 so that when the head of the screw-rod D is turned by the operator the extension 0 and with it the bar 0, is mounted to move over the face of the blade B to bring the outer edge of said guard-bar in proper relation to the cutting edge of the blade B to insure proper shaving and with the utmost safety.

The device is very simple and durable in construction, and, as previously mentioned, the frame, and with it the guard-bar, can be readily placed in position with the blade B or removed therefrom whenever it is desired to clean the blade or to sharpen the same by any of the well-known means.

Having thus fully described my invention,

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A razor-guard,com prising a spring clamping-frame for removable connection with the razor-blade, a guard-bar mounted to slide on the frame, and a screw mounted to turn in said frame and screw in said guard-bar, to move the latter across the face of the blade, substantially as shown and described.

2. A razor-guard, comprising a guard-bar having an angular extension with a nut, a frame for removable connection with the razor-blade,'a guideway on said frame for the extension to slide in, and a screw-rod mounted to turn in said guideway and screw in said nut, substantially as shown and described.

3. Arazor-guard,comprisingaspring clamping-frame having two longitudinally-extending spring-bars connected with each other at their middle by a cross-piece, and provided at their ends with lugs for resting on the back of the razor-blade, a guideway secured to said cross-piece, a guide-bar having an extension mounted to slide in said guideway, and a screw-rod mounted to turn in said guideway and screw in the nut on said extension, as set forth.
