UNITED STATES JEROME SULZBACHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,43 5, dated March 13, 1900.
A plication filed December 21, 1899. Serial No. 741,085. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J EROME SULZBACHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of hose and stocking supporters in which the supporter is constructed and arranged to be suspended from the garment and attached to the hose or stocking.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved hose-supporter that will be light in weight, cheap, simple, and compact in construction, yielding, and pliable, but of such a character as to retain its shape and allow of ample ventilation and that is easily attachable to and detachable from a corset or other garment.
My invention is more particularly adapted for a ladys hose-supporter; and it consists in the devices and combination of devices, as hereinafter described,
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 illustrates a front elevation of one embodiment of my invention with the lower portions of the straps broken away and as attached to one of the lower fastenings of a corset. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of another embodiment of my invention, but with the straps removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section through Fig. 1, but with the straps removed.
Similar letters represent like parts in all the figures.
A is a triangular rigid frame preferably made of metal and bent so as to form a loop or eye at its upper end. This loop serves as a means for detachably connecting the frame to a fastening of a corset or other garment.
B is a connecting-piece, preferably of metal and having a portion 17 bent around the side of the frame A opposite the loop a, so as to form a hinge whereby the connecting-piece B may be enabled to turn on said arm.
The straps O are preferably detachably connected to the supporting-frame, and to this end the connecting-piece B is preferably provided with longitudinal slots 0, through which ordinary supporting-straps O 0 pass, and pins or prongs 0' between said slots which serve to catch and hold the straps.
Although the connecting-piece B is shown hinged to the frame A, it may be otherwise secured to said frame, or it may be omitted entirely and the straps O secured directly to the frame A.
D is a rigid brace extending from one side arm a of the frame A to the other and which serves not only to prevent said two arms from coming together or spreading apart, but which also imparts strength to said frame. In the drawings I have shown the brace D made of sheet metal and having two of its sides bent around the sides a of the frame A.
When my device is used with a corset, the loop a is hung overthe lowermost button or stud e of the corset E, and the corset-eye e is also fastened over-said button.
Although I have shown a loop or eye as a means for detachably connecting the frame A with the corset or other garment, and I prefer such means, any other means may be used for so detachably connecting the frame.
The part B being hinged to the frame A permits the former to be turned inward by the pull of the straps C, so as to more closely conform with the surface of the wearers body.
In Fig. 2 I have shown the catch at the upper end of the frameA made in the form of a hook a extensions of the two sides of the frame being squeezed together and form ing said hook.
The loop a and the hook a are preferably flattened, as shown in the drawings, so as not to be too thick to be inclosed between the button e and eye (2' of a corset.
The frame A and its several parts and attachments may be of any form desired. The connecting-piece B and the brace D may be omitted. One strap C may be used instead of two, or any number may be used, and they may be connected to the frame A in any suitable manner.
By constructing the upper portion of my hose-supporter of an open wire frame said portion will be not only light in construction, but being of metal and an open frame will allow of ample ventilation and being of wire and having the connecting-piece hinged will permit of its yielding to fit the body without losing its shape.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A hose-supporter adapted to be attached to the front fastener of a corset consisting of a rigid, non-yielding supporting-frame, provided with means for detachably connecting it to said front fastener, and a strap attached to said frame opposite said means, substantially as set forth. a
2. A hose-supporter adapted to be attached to the front fastener of a corset consisting of a rigid, non-yielding supporting-frame, provided with means for detachably connecting it to said front fastener, and adapted to extend below the corsets lower edge, whereby it serves as a lever forcing the corset inward,
and a strap attached to said frame opposite said means, substantially as set forth.
3. A hose-supporter adapted to be attached to the front fastener of a corset consisting of a rigid, non-yielding supporting-frame, provided with means for detachably connecting it to said front fastener and adapted to extend below the corsets edge, a connectingpiece secured to the supporting-frame, and a strap secured to the connecting-piece, substantially as set forth.
4. A hose-supporter consisting of a rigid, non-yieldin g supporting-frame provided with means for detachably'connecting it to a front stud or button of a corset or other garment, a connecting-piece hinged to the supportingframe, and a strap secured to the connectingpiece, substantially as set forth.
5. A hose-supporter consisting of a rigid, non-yielding supporting-frame adapted to extend over the lower edge of a corset and provided with a flattened eye or loop for detachably connecting said frame to the front but ton or stud of a corset or other garment, and a strap attached to said frame opposite to said eye or loop, substantially as set forth.
6. A'ladys hose-supporter, consisting of a supporting-frame provided with a loop-shaped eye at its upper end, a connecting-brace below said eye, a connecting-piece hinged to the lower portion of the supporting-frame, elastic straps attached to said connecting-piece, and fastening loops at the lower ends of said straps, substantially as set forth.
7. In a ladys hose-supporter, a supportingframe provided with an eye at its upper end, a brace below said eye, and a hinged connecting-piece applied to the lower horizontal portion of the same, said connecting-piece being provided with parallel slots and prongs between said slots for attachment of the ends of the elastic straps to said connecting-piece, substantially as set forth.
8. A ladys hose-supporter, consisting of a supporting-frame, having an eye at its upper end, and a connecting piece hinged to its lower portion, said connecting-piece being provided for attachment of elastic strap, with two horizontal parallel slots and prongs struck up from the intermediate portion of the connecting-piece, between said slots, and in a line parallel therewith, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JEROME SULZBAOHER.
