Be it known that I, THOMAS W. R. MCCAEE, a citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Winsted, in the county of Litchfield Figure 1 is a rear view of parts embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same parts from the position A. in section on the plane denoted by the dotted line :c omitting the clockwork-frame and its supports. Fig. 4 is a face view of a portion of the plate, hereinafter lettered b. Fig. 5 is a similar face View of substantially the same portion of plate b interlocked with a portion of the cylinder lettered CZ hereinafter, the View being an edge view so far as that cylinder is concerned. Fig. 6 is a side view of substantially the same portion of the cylinder (Z as is shown in Fig. 5.
The object of the improvement is the production of parts aud mechanisms for attach ing a clockwork-frame (carrying the clockmovement) to the dial and parts immediately supporting the dial in a novel manner, with resulting advantages.
In the accompanying drawings the letter a denotes the clockwork-frame as a Whole. This frame carries the clock movement, which movement is not shown in the drawings. The clockwork-frame is attached to and carried by the plate h through the medium of the posts c. The plate l) has peripheral projections b. It also has a locking-indentation b2. It also has springs ha struck from the material of the plate.
Fig. 3 is a view' The letter d denotes a cylinder which may properly and suitably be made of sheet metal. It is provided with certain bayonet-joint mor tises d', adapted for cooperation with the peripheral projections ZJ. By the coperation of the two the plate b can be attached to and detached lfrom the cylinder CZ after the common bayonet-joint fashion. Thecylinder d is provided Witha tongue cl2, struck from the material of the cylinder, which when the parts are .in proper alinement is bent into the locking-indentation b2, a proceeding which locks the plate and cylinder firmly together.
The letter e denotes a dial-mat fast to the cylinder CZ. The letter f denotes the dial. These two parts, the dial-mat and the dial, may be made in one piece, and such construction is within the purview of the claim, but the preferred construction is that they be separate.
The letter b3 denotes springs struck fromtion and with the springs struck from the material of saidplate; the cylinder provided with thebayonet-joint mortises and with the tongue adapted to cooperate With said indentation; the diahmat; and the dial, all sub-j stantially as described and for the purposes l set forth.r v
