GAS BURNER FOR HEATING PURPOSES.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,830, dated March 6, 1900,

Be it known that I, ALPHONSE SEYEWETZ, a citizen of France, residing at Lyons, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Gas-Burners for Heating Purposes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, and for which application for British patent has been made, No. 3,552, dated February 17, 1899.
The invention relates to a new or improved gas heating apparatus, enabling low-pressure gas to be burned with admission of air and particularly applicable to carbureted air.
When it is desired to burn low-pressure gases in known gas heating apparatus based on the principle of Bunsen burners, the supply of air is no longer produced in sufficient quantities, the flame remains illuminating, and, further, there flows only a supply of gas which is too weak to feed the burners normally.
The invention has for its object an arrangement of gas heating apparatus designed especially to burn these low-pressure gases.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of the invention, parts being shown in section and parts in elevation, a part of the screen-cylinder being broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view with parts in section and parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal Vertical section, on an enlarged scale, through one of the burner-tubes and its casing.
In the new style of gas heating apparatus the supply of air is nolonger due to the pressure of the gas, as this pressure is almost of no account, but rather to the combustion of the gas itself by, means of special burners. These burners, which may be varied in number, according to the dimensions of the apparatus, are formed of cylinders B, of wire-gauze having very fine openings or meshes,arranged horizontally in the interior of the apparatus and closed at one of their ends by a hollow stopper G. The gas is conducted into a main conduit H and passes into each of these burners by means of an internal tube A, concentrio with thewire-gauze cylinder B, and the lower part of which is pierced along its entire length with a series of fine holes,- the com bined sections of which exceed the total section of the tube. The gas passes through these holes into the interior of the wire-gauze cylinderB, and as soon as it is lighted on the upper part of the latter there is produced a current of air through the holes in the wire gauze, and the gas mixed with air burns with a blue flame regularly distributed along the entire length of the tube.
There can be reserved between the tribe A and the entrance to the burner an annular space D for the aspiration of a certain quan tity of air into the interior of the burner;
'but this introduction of air is not indispensable.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat= cut, is-
1. In a gas heating apparatus burning lowpressure gases, an improved burner consisting of the combination of a wire-gauze cylinder closed at one end and an interior gasconducting tube pierced on its lower side along its entire length with small holes, said wire-gauze cylinder being spaced apart from the inner gas-tube, substantially as herein set forth.
2. In a gas heating apparatus burning low pressure gases, an improved burner consisting of the combination of a wire-gauze cy1- inder closed at one encl'and having an annular opening at the other end and an interior gas-conducting tube pierced on its lower side along its entire length with small holes, said wire-gauze cylinder being spaced apart from the inner gas-tube, substantially as herein set forth.
