In the drawings, Figure l represents a side view of my exhibition-jars and jar-stand arranged on the plan hereinafter pointed out. Fig. 2 is avertical central section of a jar, its attachment, and the jar-stand on which the same is located. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the sectional clamping-ring. Fig. 4f
is a bottom view of the sectional clamping-v ring. Figs. 5 and 6 are sections of the clamping-ring, showing the arrangement of the springs, catches, and parts.
In the drawings similar numerals refer to corresponding parts in the several views.
On the upper face of the stand I provide circular holes or openings, which in this instance are shown to be dovetailed in shape, as illustrated at numeral 2 in Fig. 2, for the receipt of the neck of the jar. The jar 3 is made of glass, with the upper end rounded and the neck provided with ange 4, Fig. 2, and into this jar I insert the requisite canned goods which are to be illustrated and exhibited and then insert cork 5 in the neck of the jar and place it in the inverted position, (shown in Figs. l and 2,) the reck being inserted in recess 2. The neck of the jar properly corked is inverted and inserted in opening 2 in the-jar-stand. Around this neck IV pour plaster-of-paris cast or other equivalent packing material 6, so as to hold the neck of the jar rigidly in a vertical position, as illustrated in Figs. l and 2. I employ on the jarstand, in such form and configuration as I desire, the requisite number of exhibition-jars required to properly illustrate the exhibit presented.
I place around the neck of the inverted jar what I term a sectional clamping-ring '7, formed in sections 7 and 7 b, preferably formed of metal, and in this instance the ring VSerial No. 715,799. (No model.)
lhas a corrugated surface in cross-section. Other forms of rings may be used. To one section of ring 7-viz. '7a-are attached springcatches 8, and the other section 7b is provided near the ends thereof with openings 10 to receive said catches at their free ends with catches 9 9, the catches fitting into slots l0 10 on section 7b, Fig. 5, so that when the two halves of the clamping-ring are brought together the catches 9 9 on the ends of the four springs slip into slots 10 l0 on the other half of the ring and form a close connection. The two sections of the ring when brought together have an annular opening ll (best illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4) and so made as to lit closely against the neck of the jar 'at l2 12, Fig. 2, and rest on the upper surface of the jar-stand 1 at 13 13, Fig. 2.
For the-purpose of still further steadying the jars in their inverted position I provide three or more lips 14: 14, (best illustrated in Fig. 4,) which are cut from the metal where the neck is cut away and turned downward and inward, as best illustrated in Fig. 2. These lips can be placed substantially in a Vertical line, so as to rrest vertically against the neck of the inverted jar; but in this instance they. are shown deflected away from the vertical line of the neck. It is obvious that these features may be omitted, if it is thought desirable; but my preference is to have these lips arranged so as to engage and support the neck of the inverted jar held steadily in its position to prevent accidents in handling the same.
The purpose of my invention is to furnish a compactly-arranged neat method of exhib iting in glass jars canned fruits and vegetables to be used as exhibits in stores and other places where such exhibits are desired. By the arrangement of the parts as herein illustrated each jar is hermetically sealed, and the jar being transparent the fruit or Vegetables contained in the jar are exposed to the viewA of purchasers and those interested in the subject.
It should also be borne in mind that the sectional clamping-ring can be screwed or tacked to thejar-stand for giving additional security in supporting the inverted jars in their vertical position. It should also be IOO noted that another feature of the jars consists in having the top portion rounded not only for beauty, but for convenience.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, s-
l. The combination of the jar-stand having a recess, an inverted glass jar secured at its neck in the recess in the stand, and a sectional ring surrounding the neck of the jar resting against the surface of the stand, with mechanism for securing the sectional ring in contact with the neck of the jar, for the purposes stated.
2. A jar-stand provided with a dovetailed recess in the stand, in combination with a glass jar having a neck at one end and a rounded portion at the opposite end inverted and placed inthe opening in the jar-stand and suitable packing surrounding the neck of the jar, and a sectional clamping-ring engaging the neck of the jar and the surface of the jar-stand, for the purposes stated.
3. A jar-stand and the inverted jars placed on the stand in combination With sectional base-rings surrounding the necks of the jars and engaging the same and also engaging the jar-stand, and means for holding the sectional rings to the stand and to the neck of the inverted jars, for the purposes stated.
4. Ajar-stand provided with inverted jars, in combination with a sectional metallic basering surrounding the neck of each jar with means for holding the sections of the ring together and each section of the rings provided with a lip turned downward into contact with the neck of the jars, for the purposes stated.
5. A jar-stand and an inverted jar supported thereon in combination with a sectional clamping-ring arranged to engage the neck of the inverted jar and the surface of the jar-stand, one section of the ring being provided with springs having catches at their ends and one section ot' the ring being provided With slotted catch-engaging openings for holding the parts of the ring together, for the purposes stated.
6. A jar-stand, in combination with a transparent inverted jar, the inverted end ot' the jar resting on the stand, and a ring surrounding and engaging the neck of the jar secured to the stand, substantially as set forth.
7. A jar-stand having a recess, in combination with a transparent inverted jar, the neck of which iits into the recess on the stand, packing surrounding the neck of the jar on the recess for the purposes stated.
