UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH L. HODGES, OF GLENNVILLE, GEORGIA.
PLOW AN D CU LTIVATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,352, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed October 18, 1898. Serial No. 693,937. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. I'IODGES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glennville, in the county of Tatnall and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and use, ful Improvements in Flows and Cultivators;
, and I do declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to plows and cultiva- In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevar,

end of which projects a sufficient distance beyond the opposite side of the beam to receive the removable washer-disks 4 4, on the outside of which is fixed the usual nut 5.
6 represents the plowshare or-cultivator, fixed to the lower end of the standard 2. a
7 represents a forwardly-projecting brace having its lower end pivoted to the bolt 8 in the standard, and its forward end is provided with a series of orifices 9 9 to receive the bolt 10, by means of which said brace'is adjustably secured to the beam, so as to .conveniently regulate or adjust the pitch of the plowpoint. A second standard 11 is pivoted at its upper end on the bolt 12 to the opposite side of the standard, and an adjustable disk washer 18 encompassesthe bolt 12 between the standard 11 and the plow-beam. A second adjustable disk 14 is fixed on the threaded end of the bolt, and outside of this disk is secured the nut 15.
16 represents the plowshare or cultivatorblade, fixed to the lower end of the standard 11, and 17 represents a diagonal brace piv- Fig. 2 is a similar view taken on oted at its rear end to the bolt 18 in the standard 11, and its forward end is provided with a series of orifices 19 19 for adj ustably securin g said end of the diagonal brace to the beam by means of the bolt 20.
21 denotes the heel or slide, which consists of the inclin ed bracket 22, having an inclined slot 23 and a horizontal slot 24. Through the slot 23 is passed the bolt 25, that secures the mold-board to the plow-standard.
26 denotes a longitudinal bar longitudinally adjustable with respect to the lower arm of the bracket and held in place by bolts 27.
It will thus be seen that while the standards 2 and 11 are independently adjustable they may also be adjusted parallel with each other, and being secured on opposite sides of the beam the draft is central, and consequently even, when the plow is in use. By means of the adjustable disks 4 and 14 the standards may also be laterally adjusted to and from the beam to correspond to the'size of the blades, which are removably secured to the lower ends of the standards.
This construction enables one to provide a very simple and inexpensive form of plow or cultivator and one that may be adjusted to a variety of uses in cultivating the ground.
, Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not de sire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention withoutdeparting from the spirit thereof.
Havin g thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secnrebyLetters Patent, is
The combination with the beam 1, of the standards 2 and 11 adj ustably secured to the opposite sides of said beam by the transverse bolts 3 and12, and the adjustable disk wash- JOSEPH LJI'IODGES. I
