TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, A. BORROWMAN, of the city, county, and State of' New York, have invented a new and useful improvement in Car-Bells and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof which will enable others skilled in the art' to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. v
The present invention consists in hanging the hammer or tongue to a bell upon a pivot or centre-pin, with the rope or cord for swinging the said hammer connected or hung to the end of the same, projecting outside of the bell. In the accompanying plate ofv drawings my improvement in car-bells is illustrated-- Figure 1 being a side view of the same; and
Figure 2 a central vertical section.

A, in the drawings, represents a car-bell, and B its hammer or tongue, suspended upon :a pin or pivot, C, fixed'in the said bell, and projecting by its end, D, outside of the bell, where, to such end, the cord or rope for operating the hammer to strike the bell is connected in any suitable manner.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentsuspending the tongue B in the slotted bell A, by means of the pin C, passing through the upper side of the bell, and through the end D of the tongue B, as herein set forth, for the purpose described.
