APPARATUS FOR CONCENTRATING DRY PLACER MATERIAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed November 29, 18
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTOINE CHAUMEIL, a citizen of France, residing at Oaborca, in the county of Altar and State of Sonora, Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Concentrating Dry Placer Material; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in apparatus more particularly .for what is termed dry placer-ruining for the treatment of auriferous material.
It has for its object, chiefly, to provide for the preliminary treatment of low-grade dry placer material previous to certain further or final treatment, as Well understood by those familiar with this art.
It consists, primarily, of an inclined surface or support, a flexible or textile surface having riffles thereon and arranged upon said support, and means to subject said riffle-provided surface to the action of an air-blast, and, secondarily, of certain detailsas relate to the construction and arrangement of the said parts, all substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, embodying the preferred form of my invention, Figure l is a side elevation of an apparatus embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section, the bellows being omitted. Fig. 3 is a de tailed sectional'view; and Fig. 4 is a plan view, partly in horizontal section, of the invention.
Latitude is allowed herein as to details, as they may be varied or changed without departing from the spirit of my invention and the same yet remainintact and be protected.
In carrying out my invention I employ a.
suitable upright frame-support A and arrange or secure therein a suitable inclined framing or open-work surface A, sloping both longitudinally and laterally, with a discharge or waste chute or spout C at its lower lateral edge fixed to said support; also, a second chute or spout D at lower end.
Suitably arranged to cover and secured upon the open-work surface or framing A is Patent No. 635,886, dated October 31, 1899.

1 a flexible or textile surface of canvas A, upon which is secured in the direction of its length *a series of longitudinal bars or riffles a. Also upon the frame or support A at one end, is secured or arranged a hopper M, with an inclined bottom, adapted to permit the feeding or passing of the contents of said hopper upon the riffle-pro-vided canvas A at its upper or higher end to allow the passage of said contents down transversely over said canvas, a board or partition a being so arranged with relation to the discharge end of said hopper and said upper end of said canvas to aid such delivery of said contents upon said canvas.
Below the canvas A is suitably arranged and supported within the support A a bellows B, adapted to deliver an air-blast upon the under side of the canvas A to aid or expedite the passage of the heavier particles of auriferous material along the canvas alongside of its riffle-bars, finally discharged therefrom through or at the spout D, said rifflebars primarily designed to retain said heavier particles as against transverse discharge, while the lighter particles are lifted or propelled over said riffle-bars by the action of said air-blast upon said canvas, said latter particles being finally discharged at the spout C. The lateral inclination of said canvas may be varied according to the class of auriferous material to be treated.
Suitable means is used to actuate the bellows" or air-blast-generating device, as disclosed in the drawings, the same being so well understood as, it is thought, not to need detailed description, the power being applied at E by hand or otherwise. The continuous movement or agitation thus imparted to the material has the effect to prevent the accumulation of the material alongside of the riftle-bars, consequently permitting the latter to put in their maximum work, while by the conjoint agitation of the material and the inclination of the surface bearing the material treated its discharge therefrom does not require manipulation directly by the hand, bu is effected automatically.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a laterally and 1ongitudinally inclined flexible surface or support carrying a plurality of riflie-bars disposed parallel with the sides of the surface or support, a hopper arranged to deliver material at the higher end of the surface or support, spouts at the lower end and along the lower side of the surface or support, and an air-blast-generating device arranged to deliver air-blast against the under side of the surface or support, substantially for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a laterally and longitudinally inclined open-work framing, a flexible surface of canvas or the like on said framing, a plurality of riffie-bars carried by the canvas and disposed parallel with the sides of the framing, a hopper arranged to deliver material at the higher end of the canvas, a partition operating to guide the material from the hopper to the canvas, a spout at the lower end of the framing, a spout at the lower side of the framing, and a bellows below the framing adapted to deliver an airblast upon the under side of the canvas.
