To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MAX A. PERLINSKY, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification.

The main objects of my invention are to provide for making a glove in which the palm, full thumb, and full first finger are formed of a single piece, to improve the fit of such glove in the palm and crotch of the thumb, to prevent unnecessary waste of material in cutting the blanks for gloves, and to provide for placing seams so as to interfere as little as possi ble with the free bending of the glove with the hand of the wearer and to avoid seams where same would be annoying or hurtful to the wearer.

My form of glove is particularly adapted for use by drivers, railroad men, and other workmen requiring a heavy glove which will readily yield to the action of the hand.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is the palm or front view of a glove made according to my invention. Fig. 2 is the back view of same. Fig. 3 is the outside view of the blank for the palm, full first finger, full thumb, and front of the fourth finger. Fig. 4 is the outside view of the blank for the back of the body of the glove and the second, third, and fourth fingers; and Figs. 5 and 6 are outside views of the blanks for the fronts of the second and third fingers, respectively. The blank shown in Fig. 3 consists of the body or palm at, having thereon the extensions 0, b, and f. The extensions 0 and b are separated by the cuts 1 and 2. The extension 0 has a notch 8 at the top, and to form the full first finger its outer right-hand edge is turned under, so as to register with its left-hand edge at the cut or space 6. The extension I) has a notch 7 therein, and to form the full thumb its lower edge is turned under, so that the right-hand part of same registers with the upper edge formed by the cut 1. The extension f is separated from the extension 0 by the space 6 and forms the front and part of the inner side of the fourth finger.

The blank shown in Fig. 4 consists of the body or back a, having thereon the flaps 10 and 12, and the extensions d, e, and f, which form the backs of the second, third, and fourth fingers and are separated by the cuts 8 and 9. A notch 11 is made at the left of the flap 10 and has its boundary-line extended in a curve toward the flap 12 to conform to the left-hand part of the edge of the blank for the thumb.

To form a glove from the blanks, the full first finger and thumb are formed by stitching the registering edges of each, as hereinbefore described. The blank for the back is placed in position and stitched, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The edge 13 is stitched to the upper or first-finger edge formed by the cut 1, continuing on the palm edge formed by the cut 2, the corner 23 being at the lower end of the out 2. The free end at 10 is stitched to the thumb edge of the cut 2. The edge continuing from the corner along the notch 11 and down at 14 is stitched to the lower outer edge 15 of the part for the thumb.

.The left'hand edge of the blank shown in Fig. 3 is stitched to the right-hand edge of the blank shown in Fig. 4, the seam thus formed being extended, connecting the inner edges of the extensions f and f to complete the fourth finger. The blanks d and e are stitched together at their edges 24 and 16, face to face, and are turned back and stitched at their edges 17 and 18 to the edge formed on the body a by the base of the space 6 and the cuts 3 and 4. The edge 19 is stitched to the edge formed on the extension 0 by the cut 3, and the edge 20 is stitched to the edge formed on the extension f by the cut 4. The remaining edges of the blanks d and e are stitched to the edges of the extensions 01 and 6', thus forming the second and third fingers.

I prefer to use a reinforcement 21 in the crotch between the thumb and first finger on the outside of the glove. The outline of this, to avoid confusion with the other seams, is shown by a dotted line, (indicated by the reference-numeral 21.) This reinforcement serves to protect the seams at said crotch as well as to lessen the pressure of same upon the hand when the wearer grips an article extending into the crotch.

A wristband 22 (shown in Figs. 1 and 2) may be attached to the lower edge of the body o the glove formed as before described, or the wrist portion may be finished in any other suitable form.

It will be seen that the blanks are so formed that most of the seams are at or toward the back 'of the glove. The cut 3 permits the left edge of the extension 0 to be turned back, so as to bring the inner seam of the first finger toward the rear. extension f to be turned back in similar manner. The extension f and blanks (Z and e are made broader than the extensions f and 6', so that the seams are brought toward the rear of the fingers.

A very important feature of the blanks shown is the saving of material. The blanks d and e may be cut from the material immediately at the left of the blank for the back and the blank for the palm or front may be cut from the material immediatelyat the right of the blank for the back and abutting same.

It will be understood that the form of blanks may be considerably altered without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore do not confine myself to a'glove embodying the particular form of parts shown in detail.

\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A hand-covering comprising a part for the palm, full thumb and full first finger, formed of a single piece with a cut 1 extending between the first finger and thumb from the outer edge of said piece downwardly toward the palm, and a cut 2 extending from and at an angle to the cut 1; and a part for the back of the hand, having an extension for the crotch of the thumb, with the upper edge of said extension fastened to so as to form a seam with the upper or first-finger edge of the cut 1, with the free end of said extension fastened to so as to form a seam with the thumb edge of the cut 2, and having an edge formed by a notch inward of said extension, continuing downwardly below said extension, and fastened to so as to form a seam with the lower outer edge of the part for the thumb.

2. A hand-covering comprising a part for the palm, full thumb and full first finger,

The cut 4 permits theformed of a single piece with a cut 1 extending between the first finger and thumb from the outer edge of said piece downwardly toward the palm, and a cut 2 extending from and at an angle to the cut 1; and a part for the back of the hand, having an extension for the crotch of the thumb, with the upper edge of said extension fastened to so as to form a seam with the upper or first-finger edge of the cut 1 and the palm edge of the cut 2, with the free end of said extension fastened to so as to form a seam with the thumb edge of the cut 2, and having an edge formed by a notch inward of said extension, continuing downwardly below said extension, and fastened to so as to form a seam with the lower outer edge of the part for the thumb.

3. A hand-covering comprising a part for the palm, full thumb and full first finger, formed of a single piece with a cut 1 extending between the first finger and thumb from the outer edge of said piece downwardly toward the palm, and a cut 2 extending downwardly from and at substantially right angles to the cut 1; and a part for the back of the hand, having a downwardly-inclined extension presenting an upper edge 13 fastened to so as to form a scam with the upper or firstfinger edge of the out 1 and the palm edge of the cut 2, with the free end of said extension fastened to so as to form a seam with the thumb edge of the cut 2, and having an edge, formed by the notch 11 inward of said extension, continuing downwardly below said ex tension, and fastened to so as to form a seam with the lower outer edge of the part for the thumb.

4. A hand-covering provided with an integral full thumb part and an integral full first-finger part, a cut 1 separating said thumb and first-finger parts, and a cut 2 extending from and at an angle to the cut 1.
