Description

' ing to be a full, clear, and exact description provide apreparation of this class which when WATERPROOF OIL-Fl PATENT 7 OFFICE.
or BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
LLER FOR LEATHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,754, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed February 14, 1899.
To alt whom it may concern.
Be it known that I. SIGISMUND JAKUBOVVSKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waterproof Oil-Fillers for Leather; and I do declare the followof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1
My invention relates to a composition for. a dressing for leather; and the object is to.
properly applied to leather will not only renderit waterproof, but will add to its pliability and in addition thereto act as a preservative and conduce to the life of the leather.
To this end the invention or discovery consists in the combination of the ingredients in about the proportions hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
My leather dressing or preservative consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: raw rubber, six ounces; benzin, three pints; pure lard, two pounds; beeswax, fourounces; Burgundy pitch, four 0unces;'codfishoil, four quarts; neats-foot oil, one quart; essence of thyme, two ounces. 7
The rubber is first dissolved in the benzin and then mixed with the other ingredicuts in an iron kettle and a low degree of heat Serial No. 705,494. (No specimens.)
applied until the whole is thoroughly incorporated and combined, and after cooling the mixture is then bottled for use.
In applying this dressing to shoes, harness, or any other kind of leather goods, the composition is first warmed to reduce it to a liquid or fluid state, in which condition it is thoroughly rubbed into the. leather, so as to completely fill the pores. In a short time the volatile ingredients evaporate and the solids become thoroughly incorporated with the leather, rendering it waterproof, flexible, and soft, thereby preventing its cracking and adding to its durability.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, lS
A leather-dressing, consisting of crude rubher, six ounces; benzin, three pints; lard, two pounds; beeswax, fourounces; Burgundy pitch, four ounces; codfish-oil, four quarts; neats-foot oil, one quart; essence of thyme, two ounces, incorporated and combined with the aid of'a gentle heat, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
