APPARATUS FOR BURNING HYDROCARBON OIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,463, dated October 10, 1899;

Be it known that I, WILBERT J. JACKMAN,
a resident of Lima, in the countyot Allen and State of Ohio,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Burning Hydrocarbon Oil; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art .to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvementin apparatus for burning hydrocarbon oil for heating purposes, one object ofthe invention being to so construct a stove adapted to burn hydrocarbon oil that the .full heat from the burner shall be utilized to the .best advantage and so that the heat shall be effectually radiated.
A further object is to provide an apparatus for burning hydrocarbon oil for heating purposes which shall be simple in construction, comparatively cheap to construct, and which shall be effectual in all respects in the performance of its functions.

This burner is supplied with oil from. the tank or receptacle l by means of a pipe S, having Air-pressure is supplied to the oil by means of a pump 9 of any preferred form of construction through a pipe l0, communicating with the receptacle l, and oil will be supplied to the tank through-a lling-funnel 1l, having a suitable valve 12. A pressure-gage C will preferably Abe provided and communicates by a shor't pipe 24. with the air-pipe l0, and as the latter has free'communication with the oiltank it is apparent that the pressure in the latter will be indicated by the gage.
A drum C is located some distance above the combustion-chamber and supported solely by means of a series of pipes or flues 25 26 27. The flue 2 5 communicates at its lower end with the interior of the combustion-chamber and extends through the drum O', the upper end of said iiue constituting, in effect, a thimble 28for the attachment of a suitable pipe to conduct products of combustion to a chimney and also afford proper draft for the stove. The pipe or flue 25 is provided at or near its upper end with a damper 29 and at The iiue 2G also communicates at its lower end with the combustion-chamber; but at its npper end this iiue communicates with the interior of the drum O. vThe flue 27 communicates at its upper end with the interior of the drum O', but is closed at its lower end and does not communicate with the combustionchamber. A transverse pipe or flue 3l connects the flue 27 with the direct or draft flue 25 at a point above the damper 30 in the latter. From this construction and arrangement of parts it will be seen that when the damper 30 in iiue 25 is closed the heat and products of combustion will ascend through the flue 26 and enter the drum O, through which they will pass, and then pass downwardly through the flue 27 to the short transver'se pipe or flue 3l, by which the heat and products of combustion will be conducted to the direct flue 25 and by the latter will be IOO conducted tothe chimney-pipe 3;). During this passage ot theheat. and products of combustion through the tlues and drum these parts will be highly heated, and the air between and around them will be et'tectually heated, so as to quickly and properly heat the room in which the stove is located at a small cost for fuel.
The pipes 25 2G 27 may, it desired, be inclosed by a cylinder E of open-work.
My improvements are simple in construction, comprise comparatively few parts, operate effectuaily to supply heat and light to the room in which the apparatus is located, and are effectual in all respects in the performance of their functions.
Various slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof 0r limiting itsscope, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fuily described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. The combination with a combustionchamber and a drum above the same, of a iiue in open communication at its ends with the drum and combustionchambery a direct vfine communicating' directly with the combustion-chamber and extending through the drum without means of communication therewith, means for closing communication between said direct flue and the combustionchamber, a third flue communicating at its upper end with the drum and closed at its lower end, and a transverse flue connectingT said last-mentioned tine with the direct iue above the top of the combustion-chamber.
Q. In a vapor-stove, the combination with a combustion-chamber and a vapor-burner located centrally therein, of a drum disposed above the combustion-chamber, a tine communicating at its respective ends with the combustion-chamber and drum, a tine communicating with the combustion-chamber directly over the burner therein and extending upwardly through the drum without communication therewith, means for closing communication between said last-mentioned flue and the combustion-chamber, a third flue above the combustion-chamber, said third Ilue closed at its lower end and communicating at its upper end with the drum, and a transverse ilue connecting said third tine with the central flue above the combustion-chamber.
The combination with a combustionchamber and a drinn disposed above the same, of iiues disposed upon the combustion-cham ber and supporting the drum, one of said lues in open communication with said combustion-chamber and drum and another of said tlues closed at its lower end and in open communication at its upper end with the drum, a direct tine in open communication at its lower end with the combustion-chamber, said direct tine passing upwardly from the combuStien-chamber and through the drum without means of communication with the iatter, a transverse tine connecting the fine which is ,closed at its lower end, with the direct 'Ilue at a point above the point of c01n munication of the latter with the combustionchamber, and a damper in the direct flue between t-he transverse flue and combustionchambcr, substantially as set forth.
4. A stove consisting of a drum inclosing a combustion-chamber and provided with a door, a burner located'within said combustionchamber, a d rum above the combustion-chamber, two tlues disposed between the combustion-chamber and drum above the same, both of said fines communicating with saidy drum and only one of t'hem communicating with the combustion-chai'nber, a direct flue communicating with the combustion-chamber and passing through the upper drum without means of communication therewith, means for, closing communication between said direct Hue and the combustion-chamber,a Hue connecting the direct ilue with the flue which does not communicate with the combustionchamber, and a cylinder of open-work incl'osing said fines.
