MARTIN L. POWELL, or NEWCASTLE, INDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 63,422, dated April 2, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE PIPES.
digs fitlgelmle marsh in in flgesti ettert game mm matting tart at flgs same.
Be it known that I, MARTIN L. POWELL, of Newcastle, in the county of Henry, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Reversible'Elbow and Collar for Heating, Cooking, and other Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the some, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a view of the collar detached; and
Figure 2 is a detached view of reversible elbow, the line D representing the angle, which angle is or may be composed of any number of angles, the sum of which shall make an angle of forty-five degrees. The elbow may be cast or of sheet iron.
Figure 3 shows the collar A, cast on back ot stove S, or attached in usual manner to a sheet-iron stove, with elbow, 13, attached so as to ascend perpendicularly.
Figure I shows the collar A same as in fig. 3, with the reversible elbow reversed, by which the pipe enters the chimney horizontally.
Figure 5 shows the collar A reversed in its position on the stove, with the elbow B attached so as to enter the chimney or flue at any point below the collar A in a horizontal direction.
Figure 6 shows the collar Aattached as in figs. 3 and 4, with the elbow B lengthened and extending upward so as toenter the side of a flue or chimney at a point above the'level of the collar A.
Figure 7 shows the collar A attached or cast to top of stove, with the elbow B attached so as to enter the flue or chimney horizontally.
Figure 8 shows the collar A attached thesame as in fig. 7, with elbow reversed so as to cause the pipe to ascend perpendicularly. Y
By means of which collar and elbow all of the foregoing changes and positions are attained without any change in the shape of the said collar and elbow.
that I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The collar A, constructed substantially as set forth, so as to be attached to the stove in any of the modes above set forth.
2. I claim the reversible elbow B, composed of any number of angles, the sums of which shall make an angle of forty-five degrees, constructed and operated substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. I claim the combination of the reversible collar and the reversible elbow B, constructed and operated in combination, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
MARTIN L. POWELL. Witnesses:
