The usual shipper-handle 39, Fig. 2, moves in the notched plate c3". On the outer side of the stand b1 I have mounted a sliding aetuatorm, (shown separately in Fig. 2%) longitudinally slotted at m to receive retaining-screws m2, extended into the stand, the rear end of the said actuator having a lateral lug or projection m3, adapted to be engaged by a hook m1, pivoted at m5 on an ear A20 on the weft-hammer, said ear being offset to clear the stand and the actuator. The outer end m6 of the hook is T-shaped and is acted upon by a leaf-springr on the ear A20 to frietionally retain the hook in operative or inoperative position until positively moved therefrom. The hook is provided with a laterally-extended pin or stud m7, herein shown as near its head end and in the path of movement of one or other of the branches 1119020 of the feeler rock-shaft b1, At each forward beat of the lay the upper branch b1" will slide over or above the pin m7 to thereby maintain the hook m4 inoperative. lVhcn, however, the filling in the shuttle has been exhausted sufficiently to permit a greater movement of the feeler into the shuttle, the branch b2" will be raised sufficiently to pass beneath and lift the pin m1 as the lay beats up to thereby depress the rear end of the hook to engage the lug or projection mg of the actuator m, so that the latter will be moved outward by the weft-hammer. The outer end of the slide will at such time engage an upturned arm (Z211, fast on the rockshaft d, turning the latter sufficiently to operate the filling-supplying mechanism in well-known manner to therebyinsert a fresh supply of filling into the shuttle before complete exhanstion of the filling then in the shuttle. lVhen the shuttle, with its fresh supply of filling, thereafter enters the shuttlebox Z212, the feeling movement of tliefeeler will be suspended and the rock-shaft L15 will be so positioned angularly as to cause the branch o1 to engage the pin m7 and depress it to move the hook m1 into inoperative position. It
will thus be seen that the controlling means for the filling-supplying mechanism is actuated by or through the weft-hammer in a positive manner and that the cooperation of said controlling means and weft-hammer is IOO IIC
governed by or through the feeler and effected upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent, the feeler being adjusted angularly with relation to the branch D20 to bring the latter into operative position only when a small and predetermined amount of filling is left upon the filling-carrier.
The controlling means for the filling-supplying mechanism includes the rock-shaft d', the actuator m, and the usual connections between the rock-shaft d and transferrer, as Patent No. 529,940, referred to, and the feeler-l controlled rock-shaft o16, with its branches b1 Z220, may be termed a governing"7 device for said controlling means. Should the filling fail, then the usual weft-fork mechanism will operate, and upon the first outward movement of the slide D the end 44. of the wedge d6 will engage the shoulder 45 to permit the latch (Z5 to drop on the knock-off lever, as in Patent No. 520,943, and at the second outward movement of the slide the latch, then behind the knock-off lever, will push the latter to release the shipper-handle and stop the loom. An arm (130 is loosely mounted on the rock-shaft d and is held by a spring SX against the outer end of the slide o, the spring pushing the. slide inward, a depending extension C132 on the arm engaging the usual actuating-pawl of the take-up mechanism when the arm d3() is rocked by the outward movement of the slide, so that the take-upwill not be actuated at either the first or second movement of the said slide.
My invention is not restricted .to the construction and arrangement herein shown, as the same may be modified or rearranged without departing from the spirit and scope of myinvention. Neither is my invention restricted to the use of the weft-fork mechanism herein shown.
I'Iaving described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. In aloom, ashuttle containingasupply of filling, filling-supplying mechanism, the wefthammer, controlling means for said mechanism including a sliding actuator, a llingfeeler, a normally-inoperative connection between the weft-hammer and the actuator, and a governing device for said connection, operative by or through the feeler upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent, to move said connect-ion into operative position and thereby effect movement of the actuator by the weft-hammer and thereby actuate the controlling means.
2. In a loom, a shuttle containing a supply of filling, filling-supplying mechanism the wefthammer, controlling means for said mechanism including a sliding actuator, a coperating hook mounted upon the weft-hammer, a filling-feeler, and a governing device for the hook, operative by or through the feeler upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle, to move the hook into engagement with the actuator.
3. In a loom, filling-supplying mechanism, controlling means therefor, including a sliding actuator, the weft-hammer, ahook carried thereby, a governing device mounted on the lay, to move the hook into or out of position to engage the actuator, and a filling-feeler connected with and to operate said governing device to effect engagement of the hook and actuator upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a'predetermined extent.
4. In a loom, the lay, a spring-controlled filling-feeler mounted thereupon, a dog connected with the feeler, a yielding bunter to engage the dog and move the feeler into engagement with the filling as the lay beats up, filling-supplying mechanism, controlling means therefor, including an actuator, an operating-hook for the actuator, and a governing device controlled by the feeler, to maintain thehook inoperative until exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermed extent.
5. In a loom, thelay, a filling-feeler mounted thereon, a spring to retain the feeler inoperative, means to move the feeler positively to contact with the filling in the shuttle as the lay beats u p,fillin g-suppl yin g mechanism ,controlling means therefor actuated by the wefthammer, the weft-hammer, and a governing device operated by or through the feeler before the filling is exhausted in the shuttle, to
effect the actuation of the controlling means.
6. In a loom, the lay havinga shuttle-box, a shuttle containing a supply of filling, filling-supplying mechanism, controlling means for said mechanism, a filling-feeler mounted IOO on the front plate of the shuttle-box, and a governing device operatively positioned by the feeler upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent, to effect the actuation of the controlling means.
7. In a loom, the lay having a shuttle-box, a shuttle containing a supply of filling, filling-supplying mechanism, a filling-feeler mounted on the front plate of the shuttle-box, and means controlled by the feeler to effect operation of the filling-supplying mechanism upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent.
8. In a loom, lling-supplying mechanism, controlling means therefor, including a rockshaft having an arm fast upon it, and a sliding actuator to engage said arm and rock the Shaft, a weft-hammer, a hook carried thereby to slide the actuator, a filling feeler, and means governed by said feeler to effectengagement of said hook and actuator before the complete exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle.
9. In aloom, filling-supplying mechanism, controlling means therefor, including a rockshaft and a sliding actuator to rock it, a wefthammer, a filling-feeler, and means governed thereby to effect the movement of the actuator by the weft-hammer upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent, combined with a shuttle-feeler, filling- IIO severing means carried thereby, to sever the thread of the ejected filling-carrier, and operating connections between the rock-shaft and the shuttle-feeler.
10. In a loom, a shuttle containing a sup ply of filling, a shuttle-feeler, filling-severing means carried thereby, filling supplying mechanism, controlling means therefor oper ative when the shuttle is properly boxed, a filling-feeler to effect the operation of said controlling means upon exhaustion of the filling in the shuttle to a predetermined extent, and an actuating device for said filliug severing means, operative upon change of filling to sever the thread of the ejected fillingcarrier.
11. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, a shuttle-feeler operatively connected therewith, filling severing means mounted on the shuttle-feeler, and an operating device for said means, operative upon change of filling to sever the thread of the ejected filling-carrier.
1L. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, means mounted independent of the lay to sever the thread of the ejected filling-carrier upon change of filling, and means to actuate said severing means.
13. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, a depending arm fulerumed above the path of the lay, filling-severing means mounted thereupon, upon the arm, an actuating device for said means, and means to position the arm, both operative upon change of filling, to effect severance of the thread of the ejected filling-carrier.
14. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, means to sever the thread of the ejected filling-carrier upon change of filling, and an actuator for said means, carried by the lay wholly above the warp.
15. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, a sh uttle-feeler operatively connected therewith, filling severing means mounted on the shuttle-feeler, and comprising a fixed and a movable blade to engage between them the thread of an ejected fillingcarrier, and a device mounted on the lay to aetuate the movable blade upon change of filling.
16. In a loom, the lay, filling-supplying mechanism, a shuttle-feeler operatively connected therewith, lling severing means mounted on the shuttle-feeler, and comprising a fixed and a movable blade to engage between them the thread of an ejected filling carrier, and a device mounted on the lay to actuatethe movable blade upon change of filling, and means to return the said blade to inoperative position.
