Description

No. 622,932. Patented A r; u, I899.
w. TRIBBLE.
CIGAR BOX.
(Application filed July 19, 1898.)
(No Model.)
WITNESSES g mr m: mums PETERS co, mom-M1110 wunmcwm u. c. 0
. ATTORNEYS.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM TRIBBLE, of Alton, in the county of Madison and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Box, of which the following isa full,
clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in cigar-boxes; and the object is to provide a cigar-box so arranged that the several cigars originally placed therein may be successively drawn out by mechanical meanssuch, for instance, as in a coin-controlled vending-machine, and particularly the machine for which I applied for Letters Patent under date of March 23, 1898, Serial No. 674,891.
I will describe a cigar-box embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a section through the line 1 l of Fig. 2 of a cigar-box embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
The box 1 is substantially of the ordinary form; but arranged in the box is a flexible drawing device 2, here shown in the form of a ribbon, with one end secured to an end wall of the box near its top, as indicated at 3.
When the cigars are originally packed, the drawing device is passed back and'forth between the layers of cigars, with the fastened end extended over the top layer. The free end of the drawing device passes under the lower layer and is designed to project through an opening 4 at the bottom of an end wall of the box. This opening may be formed by breaking away a portion of the end wall before placing the box in a vending-machine.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM TRIBBLE, OF ALTON ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SAMUEL H. WYSS, OF SAME PLACE.
CIGAR-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 622,932, dated April 11, 1899.
Application filed July 19, 1898. Serial No. 686,380. (No model.)
By pulling outward on the drawing device it is obvious that the cigars may be discharged one at a time through the opening 4.
If desired, parting-strips 5, of cardboard or similar material, may be placed between the lengthsof ribbon between layers of cigars. These strips 5 will serve to hold an upper layer of cigars in proper alinement while cigars of a lower layer are discharged from the box. It is to be understood, however, that the strips 5 may be omitted without depart ing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I 1. As a new article of manufacture, a cigarbox having an opening in one end and provided with a ribbon or the like secured to the end of the box having the opening, said rib bonbeing adapted to extend between the outermost layers of cigars and the box, and between the several layers of cigars, with two thicknesses between adjacent layers and out through the opening of the box, as set forth.
2. A cigar-box having an opening in one end at the bottom and provided with a ribbon or the like secured to the end of the box having the opening near the top thereof, said ribbon being adapted to extend between the outermost layers of cigars and the box and between the several layers of cigars, with two thicknesses between adjacent layers, and out through the opening of the box, and partingstrips arranged between the two thicknesses,
of ribbon between the layers of cigars, substantially as shown and described.
