HAN D-STAM P HAND LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters I'atent No. 621,997, dated March 28, 1899. Application filed January 7, 1895. Serial No. 534,084. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GRANVILLE W. DUNoK- LEE, of Brockton, in the county of Plymouth,
State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to hand-stamps; and my object is to dispense with any intermediary appliance between and connecting the lower end of the handle and the upper end of the die. I attain this object by an improvement in the construction of molded india-rubbe'r handles,- which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved handle; Fig. 2, an elevation of the stamp or die; Fig. 3, an elevation of the handle holding the die ready for use.
My invention consists of an enlarged handle, a reduced neck 1), less in diameter than the diameter of the socket-head w, as shown in Fig. 1, together with the head as, all molded from a single piece of india=rubbe1n neck 19 is reduced to make it sufficiently flexible to permit the face of the die to conform to the flat surface struck in stamping whether or not the handle is held perpendicular to the surface in stamping. The die is formed with a face (I and shank F, which shank is received by and held in the socket a, and the shank should be slightly larger than the socket a, so that it will be held therein by the tension of the rubber.
If desired, that portion of the handle above the dotted line e, Fig. 1, may be made of wood or any other suitable material.
What I claim is The enlarged handle, the tension die-socket, and the connecting reduced flexible neck all molded in a single piece of india-rubber, substantially as described.
. GRANVILLE W. DUNCKLEE.
