IMPROVEMENT IN GORN-HUSKERS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, O. M. POND, of Independence, in tl1e.county of Buchanan, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Huskers; and I lo hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the husker.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the viens.
This implement consists of a metallic plate of the shape shown in the drawing. The curved part A, fig; l, is merle to fit the forengcr of the right hand between theknuckle and first joint. Part B of the plate is convexed transversely on the under side,l so as to ada-pt it to the curve of .the closed fingers, across which it reaches to the little finger. The husker is secured to the hand by the elastic band C, which is attached toeach cnil of the plate. D is a sharp projecting point by which the husk is stripped from the com; the position of this point is such as to be opposite to the thumb, and between which the car is grasped for hacking. The outside of the plate is concave transversely, in which the ear is more securely held for the-purpose of breaking it from the i stalk. It will be seen that the plate is broader-acrossimmediately back ofthe point than elsewhere; this serves' to protect the finger from abrasion. I am aware that metallic huskers have been made similar in shape and construction to this, but that which distinguishes my invention is thesecuring thehusker to the hand by the elastic band C, so that it is thereby rendered easier to the hand', as the' opening and shutting of the fingers causes a strain upon the bend which yields to the force, and thereby the fingers are not'cramped as is` the case with the huskcrs when made entirely of. metal or secured by a non-elastic band; also, by the applica-tion of the elastic webbing, the husker is easilyadapted to different-sized hands; hence it is much more convenient, andis less liable to slip off while in use. Y
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is '.lhc metallic plate A, constructed and arranged as herein described, in combinationwith the elastic band C, as n new article ofmanufacture.
