SPECIFIClATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 613,605, dated November 1, 1898.

To all whom it may concern..-

Beit known that I, FRANK T. R1oE,of Tower City, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Extension Shade and Curtain-Pole Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved extension-holderfor shades and curtain -poles and which is simple and durable in construction, easily adjusted to windows of any width, and arranged for convenient attachment to the window-casing.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification,

in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement extended ready for use. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the improvement folded up. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of a modified form of fastening device for the pole-bracket, parts being in section. Fig. 4. is an end elevation of one of the supporting-hooks with part of the frame in section, and Fig. 5 is a sectional plan view of the same.

The improved holder is provided with a frame A, preferably made of wire, in two sections A A having parallel members A A and A A respectively, of which the members A A are fitted to slide one upon the other, and the members A A are similarly arranged relatively to one another. The ends A A of the sections A A are made in U -shaped form, the side or end members being bent inwardly along the corresponding members A A and A A.

On the middle portions of the ends A A are pivoted the curtain-fixtures B B, respectively, of which the fixture B is formed with the usual elongated slot B for receiving the flattened trunnion of the shade -roller, the other fixture B being formed with the usual aperture B for receiving the round trunnion of the shade-roller.

Each of the fixtures B B is provided at its pivot end with ofisets or flanges B adapted to abut against the end members of the ends Serial No. 678,629. (No model.)

A A so as to limit the outward-swinging motion of said fixtures to hold the same approximately at a right angle to the frame A, as is plainly indicatedin Figs. 1 and 2. When the device is not in use, the fixtures B B can readily be swung inward in alinement with the frame A,as is plainly shown in Fig.2,to permit of conveniently transporting the holder from one place to another and without the fixtures projecting from the frame and form ing undesirable obstructions.

On the ends of the frame-sections A A are arranged means in the form of pins 0 C, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or in the form of bolts 0 as indicated in Fig. 3, for fastening the ordinary pole brackets D to the frame A. As indicated in said Figs. 1 and 2, the upper pins 0 are bent upwardly to securely hold the pole-brackets in place, it being understood that the pins engage the apertures in the pole brackets usually engaged by the screws or nails for fastening the brackets to the window-casing.

In order to support-the frame A on the win dow-casin g, I provide hangers E, each formed at its upper end with a hook E, adapted to be'driven into the window-casing at the top edge of the cross-bar, the hanger being also formed at its lower end with a block E grooved at its sides to engage the side members of a U-shaped loop A", formed on the corresponding member A or A of the frame A. The upper end of the block E forms a seat for the middle portion of the loop A to securely hold the frame A in position. Two or more such loops A are preferably formed on each of the members A or A for fitting the hangers properly on narrow or wide window-casings.

It is evident from the foregoing that the device is very simple and durable in con-' struction, can be cheaply manufactured, and readily extended according to the width of the window on which the device is to be used. Furthermore, an ordinary pole-bracket can be readily attached to the frame at the ends thereof or removed therefrom whenever desired.

By having'the curtain-roller fixtures B B mounted to swing on the frame I am enabled to readily fold the said fixture up when transporting the device from one place to another;

but the said fixtures are always on the frame ready for use.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I 1. A shade and curtain-pole holder comprising a frame formed in two slidably-connected sections, each section having its outer end bent inwardly in the form of a U shadesupporting fixtures pivotally mounted on each inwardly-bent end of the sections, each fixture having flanges adapted to engage with the sections to limit the outward movement thereof, the fixtures being capable of swinging inward in plane with the frame, two pins carried at the outer end of each frame-section, and pole-supporting brackets removably mounted on each pair of pins.

2. A curtain shade and pole holder comprising a frame formed in two sections slidable longitudinally on each other, each section having its outer end bent inwardly in the form of a U, a shade holding fixture mounted to swing on each inwardly-bent end of the sections, each fixture having a flange serving to limit the outward movement thereof and the fixtures being capable of swinging into plane with the frame-sections, pins car ried respectively by the frame-sections at points outward from the adjacent shade-hold ing fixtures, pole-supporting brackets carried on said pins, and a hanger for each framesection, each hanger having a block and each frame-section having a loop with which the blocks are engaged, whereby to connect the hangers with the frame-sections.
