Description

LEOPOLD STIASSNY,`OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
lNCANDESCENT-IVIANTLE SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,527, dated September 27, 1898.
. Application iiled February 24, 1898. Serial No. 671,514. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD STIAssNY, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mounting Incandescent Maut-les, of which the following is a specification.
By means of this invention mantles for incandescent lighting can be readily mounted, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a mantle and support. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along line x so, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 shows a modication. Figs. 6 and 7 show another modification.
A mantle-carrying ring or tube 1, of suitable metal or material, has the mantle 2 suitably closed or secured thereabout, as by awire or suitablestring 3, runor stitched through the upper edge part-of the mantle and tied or drawn about ring 1. This ring or setting 1 is provided with supporting-arms 4, which are secured to the main carrier or ring 5, having leg or standard 6. The arms 4 are suitably secured to carrier 5. A quick manner of securing is attained by bending or hooking arms 4 to or about ring 5,although wiring or other fastening means might be employed.
The mantle-carrying ring 1 could be formed integral with arms 4 or otherwise secured thereto. In the drawings the upper part or edge of ring 1 is shown flanged or bent at 7 over a ring S, seated about ring 1 and forming part of or connected to arms 4. The ring 8 being slipped about or seated on the shoulder 9 of ring 1 and the edge 7 of ring 1 being then flanged over ring 8, the parts are secured together.
The attaching of the mantle-carrying ring 1 to arms 4 and of the latter to the main carrier 5 can be readily effected and does not necessitate handling of the mantle 1. In consequence of the comparative frailty of the mantle handling of the latter is objectionable.
In Fig. 5 the tube orsetting 1 is shown provided with a flange or flaring piece 10, which is suitably iianged or connected to or formed on the lower part ,of tube 1 and prevents mantle 2 from slipping down or falling out of place. By suitably rounding edge 11 of the piece 10 the latter is prevented from cutting or injuring the mantle. A washer or ring 12 can also be applied or seated under arms 4 and will serve to keep the mantle from slipping up or out of place. The washer 12 can be omitted,
if seen fit. f The parts 1 4, as also flare 10, to- 6o The main carrier or ring 5 can be led or 65 dented, as at 15, Fig. 4, so as to give depressions or. seats in which arms 4 can swing to allow the mantle certain freedom of motion.
The mantle-carrying ring or setting 1 or its ring 8 need not have the support 4 in the form 7o of arms, since a modified form of support, such as bail 4', Figs. 6 and 7, will sustain the mantle. When the support 4 is placed in the seat or hook 13 of main carrier 5', the support 4 is swingingly sustained in such seat or depression 13.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with supporting-arms having a ring, of a mantle-carrying ring 8o flanged about the rst-named ring substantially as described.
2. The combination with supporting-arms having a ring, of a mantle-carrying ring having a shoulder for the support of and flanged about said first-named ring, and a main carrier about which the arms are bent substantially as described.
5. A mantle-carrying ring provided with two horizontal arms extending radially in op- 9o posite directions, in combination with a supporting-ring provided with depressions at its opposite sides, the ends of said arms being bent around the depressed portions of said supporting-ring, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto" set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEOPOLD STIASSNY. `Witnessesz W. C. I-IAUFF, E. F. KAsrENHUBER.
