T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. DAVY, oi" Newark, in the county of Essex, and State of :Newv Jersey, have invented a new and improved Bristle Boot for Horses; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a fullY clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents a plan er'top View of this invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical central section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention consists in a strap provided with radiating bristles made from hair, or other suitable material, in such a manner that a boot for horses is obtained which is easily applied and removed, and which is not liable to wear out.
In order to cure horses from interfering with -their legs, it is a common practice to Wrap roilnd the ankles of their legs small ribbons made of straw, from which project some ot' the straws in a radial direction, s0 that the horse will feel it when he brings one leg close up to the other, and by these means he is cured from the habit (1f-interfering. I These straw boots Wear ont very quickly, and have to be renewed so often that it requires much time and labor to 4keep them inorder. These disadvantagesare obviated by my bristle boot, which consists of a strap, A, with a suitable buckle or fastening, B, and from the strap radiate a series of bristles, C,'made of hair or other suitable material, such as broom corn, rattan splints, tine steel wires, 0r similar stiff and elastic substances. By the radiating bristles the horse is elfectually prevented from bringing one leg close up tothe other;
the bristles prick or tickle him without producing any injury, and aperi'ect cure is eifected in a short time. My bristle boots areireadily applied, and not liable ,to Wear out for a long time.
Vhat I claim ris-new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A. bristle boot for horses composed of a strap A, with radiating bristles C, as .a new article ofmanufaeture; l v JOHN J. DAVY.
