Description

(No Model.) I v N. MO'AULAY. BUGGYBOW REST.
No. 603,962. Patented May 10,1898.
Wm W M NORMAN MOAULAY, OF HILL CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO OAMILLO VON WOEHRMANN, OF SAME PLACE.
BUGGY-BOW REST.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 603,962, dated May 10, 1898. Application filed October 2, 1897- Serial No. 653,899. (No model.)
To (0% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NORMAN McAULAY, residing at Hill City, in the county of Pennington and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Bow Rests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to a buggy-bow rest; and it consists of the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to simplify devices of this character and render them more efficient in operation, as well as increase the strength and durability at a comparatively low cost of manufacture.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of aportion of a buggy-bow, showing the device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the improved buggy-bow rest. Fig. 3 is a section on the line w m, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, wherein similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral 1 designates a socket through which a securing-bolt or analogous device is passed into the buggy-body or other place.
Extending transversely across the top of the said socket is a rest 2, having an upper concaved side 3, in which the lower member of the bow is adapted to rest. Attached to the upper portion of one side of the socket l are knuckles 3, and also on one edge of a curved clasp 4:, and the opposite edge thereof has slotted clasps 5 thereon, adapted toengage and turn buttons 6.
The improved device is applied in proper position, so as to cause the lower member of the buggy-bow to lie in the rest 2 when folded down. The clasp 4 is then passed over the member of the buggy-bow seated in the rest 2 and secured. By this means the bow is held against dropping down below a predetermined level and by means of the clasp is prevented from moving upwardly.
The parts may be constructed of any suitable material and may be changed in shape and details of construction. The cost of manufacture is reduced to a minimum and consequently the sale price will also be small.
The device is adapted to be applied to vehicles in use without marring or changing the structure of the same, and the proportions and dimensions may be varied at will.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A buggy-bow rest comprising a boltingsocket, a rest extending transversely across the top of the bolting-socket in a plane at a right angle thereto and provided with an upper concave side, a curved clasp conforming in shape to the said rest and hinged at one side thereto, and supplemental clasps movably attached to said curved clasp and adapted to engage locking devices on the rest, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NORMAN MCAULAY.
