To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, EMIL F. GENNERT, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candle-Lamps for Photo Dark Rooms, of which the following is so full, clear, and exact a description as will enable one skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my improved lamp. Fig. 2 is a section of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the lamp, showing it collapsed in compact form. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the top baffle.

The object of my invention is to simplify and cheapen the construction of that type of photographic dark lamps employing candles in lieu of oil and without loss of efliciency;v

Secured to the top of said tube is a cap A', the diameter of which is reduced near its lower end to form a shoulder a and again reduced near its top, as shown at a', to conform to the shape of the upper end of the candle and increased at its extreme upper end, as shown at CL2, to form a combined greasecup and baffle contiguous to the iame.

H designates a removable chimney-holder which when the device is in use is slipped over said cap and is supported by said shoulder a.. This chimney-holder is approximately cone-shaped, as shown, and is formed with air-inlets h beneath said shoulder a. The lower end of said chimney-holder is bent outward substantially at right angles with its body to form a ledge H', which supports the chimney I, said chimney being held irmly but removably on said ledge by spring-arms h', projecting from the latter.

J designates a cap which when inposition for use rests upon the top of the chimney I, but when the device is arranged in compact form for transportation is removed from said end of the chimney, inverted, and supported v.by the inverted chimney-holder H. This cap has an open top, and to it is secured, by means ofjangle-pieces k, a plate or baffle K, whereby -anair-space is left around and above the baffle.

The lower end of the tube is secured to a base L, preferably by means of a bayonetjoint M, to permit its removal when necessary to replace a used candle by a new one. This base is formed with an annular depression Z, which receives the end of the chimney I when said chimney and its holder havebeen removed from operative position (shown in Fig. 1)'and inverted and slipped over the whole tube A, as shown in Fig. 3, to render the device most compact and best adapt it to be carried.

From the above it will be seen that I have provided a most simple and yet efficient pocket candle-lamp for photographers use 'and one which can be most conveniently carried.

Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The herein-described pocket-lamp for photographers, consisting of a candle-containing tube, a lower baffle thereon, a cap fitted to the upper end of said tube, said cap being expanded at its upper end and reduced contiguous to said expanded portion and also having a projecting lower end, a chimneyholder supported between said lower baflie and expanded top by said projecting portion of the cap, said chimney-holder having openings in its side wall and being formed with a ledge at its lower end, a chimney supported on said ledge, a cap at the top of said chimney, and a baffle secured to said cap and so located with respect to the same as to provide an air-space in the cap around and above'the baffle, substantially as described.

The herein-described knockdown pocketlamp for photographers, consistingl of a candle-containing tube, a lower baffle for reiected light-rays secured to said tube, a cap secured to the upper end of said tube and having an expanded upper end to form a combined grease-cup and baffle and formed with a shoul der at its lower end, a chimney-holder removably supported between said bafies on said shoulder, said chimney-holder having a ledge at its bottom and openings in its side Wall, a chimney supported' on said ledge, a removable cap at the top of said chimney, a baiiie secured to said cap and so located with respect to the same as to provide an air-space in the cap around and above the battle, said chimney-holder and chimney being removable together from said tube and adapted to be inserted over the same in inverted position, and a base having an annular recess to receive the end of the chimney when said parts are inverted, substantially as described,

In a knockdown photographic lamp, the combination with the illuminant-containing tube, and a base having an annular recess, of a chimney-holder, a chi 1n ney attached thereto and a removable cap at the top of said chimney, said chimney-holder and chimneybeing arranged and constructed to be removed from said tube and slipped over the same in inverted position with the end of the chimney in said recess, substantially as described and for the purposes specified.

4. In a knockdown pocket-lamp, the combination with the illuminant-containing tube having an enlarged supporting-base, of a chimneyholder removably supported on the upper portion of the tube, and a chimney litte'd at one end in thel101de1,said holder and chimney being adapted to be jointly removed from the tube, inverted and fitted over the tube with the other end of the chimney supported on said base, substantially as described.

5. In a knockdown photographic lamp, the combination with the illuminanti-containing tube having an enlarged supporting-base, of a chimney-holder adapted to be removably supported on the upper portion of the tube, a chimney fitted at o ne end in the holder, and a cap removably supported on the other end of the chimney, the construction being such that the cap may be removed from the chimney, the holder'and chimney inverted and slipped over the tube and supported by said base, and the cap be inverted and supported in the inverted holder, substantially as described.
