SPECIFICATION;

TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:

- Be it knownthat I, JOHN SPEIRS, of Boston, ,of the-county of Sufi'olk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful or improved FirProof Pipe Case; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which' Figure 1 is aside elevation; and i Figure 2, a longitudinal section of it, the pipe being shown also in section and as in place within the case.

The purpose of my invention is to hold a smoking pipe and a clearer therefor, and to accomplish the same by a case made fire proof,-in the ordinary acceptation of the term, the same being in order that when the case with the pipe within it may be placed in the pocket of a person's coat or dress it may not burn or. uncomfortably heat such pocket. i

The case I construct of tinned iron or other proper metal or material, and I make it hollow and of the general form of the pipe. The part, A, to hold the bowl of the pipe I construct in two pieces, a 6, formed with an internal space to fit to the bowl. These parts, a b, I hinge together, as shown at c, the part a being a cover to the portion-b, from which I extend a tube, 13, to receive'the stem of the pipef This tube at its smaller end i has a movable thimble -01 cup, 0, fitted upon it, such thimble or cup being fastened to the end of a clearing rod or wire, d, which is to enter a smaller tube, e, secured to and alongside of the tube B. The said clearing rod is to enable a smoker to clear the bore of the pipe stem from matters which may accumulate therein,the rod or wire having a diameter such as will allow it to enter the said bore and be forced through it, p

I claim as my invention the combination of the parts a b and 13, arranged and applied together substantially as described.-

I also claim the pipe case as made oi the tubes e B, and the bowl parts a 6, combined and arranged substantially as specified. v r V t I also claim the pipe case as composed of the bowl parts a b, the stem-holder B, the cup G, and the tube e, arranged together as specified. V l

I also claim the combination of the clearer d with the cup 0, to be applied to the pipe case stem receiver, B, as specified. I
