Description

G. KRAUS.
NEOKTIB.
(No Model.)
No. 600,589. Patented Mar. 15,1898.
I INVENTUH ga W ATTORNEY? WITNESSfS ATENT FFICEQ GUSTAV KRAUS, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
NECKTIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,539, dated March 15, 1898.
7 Application filed June 19, 1897. $erial No. 641,494. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUSTAV KRAUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to neckties, and particularly to that class thereof known as bows; and the object of the invention is to provide a necktie of this class with an improved fastening device, whereby the same may be connected around the neck or around a collar, a further object being to provide a necktie of this class with a fastening-strap which may be longitudinally adjustable, so as to correspond in length with collars of different sizes.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which'the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a back view of a bow necktie made according to my invention; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the fastening-strap folded, and Fig. 3 an edge view of the construction shown in Fig. 2.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in said drawings I have shown at 5 an ordinary bow necktie, which is provided at the center thereof with a loop or band 6, to one side of which is secured an elastic strap 7, which is provided with a ring 8, and to the opposite side of the loop or band 6 is secured the fastening-strap 9.
The fastening-strap 9 is provided near the free end thereof with a loop or link 10, which is provided with a hook 11, which is adapted to engage with the ring 8, and secured to the extreme end of the fastening-strap is a hook 12. The fasteningstrap passes loosely through the loop or link 10 and is free to slide therein, or said link or loop is free to slide on said strap, and in connecting the tie or bow with the collar the strap 9 is passed around the neck and the hook 11 of the link 10 is passed through the ring 8, and the end of the strap is then folded along the body portion thereof, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and the hook 12 is inserted into said strap, as shown in said figures. The strap 9 is also provided with a scale which represents the difierent sizes of collars, as shown at 13, and the hook 12 is adapted to be connected with said strap at any point of said scale or between said points, and I thus provide a simple and effective means for adjusting the strap 9 to suit collars of various sizes.
The scale on the strap 9 extends from 12 to 15, but it will be understood that said strap may be of. any desired length and the scale thereon may represent any desired size of collar.
The loop or band 6 of the tie 5 is also provided with a hook 14, which is adapted to engage with the collar-button, so as to prevent the tie from slipping up over the collar, and it will be apparent that my improvement may be applied to neckties of other forms and construction than that herein shown.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A necktie which is provided at one side of the center thereof with a ring, and at the opposite side with a strap which is adapted to pass around the neck, said strap being provided with a link or loop which is free to slide thereon, and which is provided with a hook which is adapted to engage with said ring, and the end of the strap being provided with a fastening device which is adapted to be connected with said strap, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 15th day of June, 1897.
GUSTAV KRAUS.
