The rear portion of the dome 20 connects by an outside water-leg 24 with the lower back part of the section 11,so that the only rear connection between the upper and lower waterholding sections of the heater is through this leg 24. Consequently it will be seen at once that the outside air will have a tendency to cool the leg, so that the water will be a few degrees cooler here than in the interior portions of the cylinder, and the cooler water will therefore descend through the leg 24: and pass into the section 11, from which, being heated around the fire-pot, it will rise through the lower nipple 19, through the section 16, being deflected by the plate 16 toward the back of the said section, then flow forward above the deflecting-plate, as shown by the arrow in Fig. 1, thence up through the second nipple 19 to the section 17, thence back upon the deflecting-plate 17 thence forward again to the upper nipple 19, thence through the ring 22 and water-legs 23 of the dome 20, and thence back through the waterleg 24:, thus keeping up the constant inner movement. The outflow is' through the pipe 26 and the return is through the pipe 2'7, connecting with the lower part of the section 11.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that this heater is very simple, that the sections going to make it up can be laid one on the other with great case, that an immense heating-surface is provided, thus affording economical heating of the water, and that a good means of inner circulation is provided.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An improved heater, comprising a lower hollow-Walled section containing a fire-pot, superposed water-holding sections above said lower section, the said sections being connected with each other and with the lower section at one side only of the heater, and an exterior Water-leg connecting the upper and lower sections at the opposite side of the heater, substantially as described.
2. An improved heater, comprising a lower water-holding section containing a fire-pot with a forwardly-deflecting inclined waterholding wall at the back of the fire-pot, su-
perposed water-holding sections mounted on the lower section and provided with smokeflues, suitable connections between the said sections, and a smoke-flue to carry off the products of combustion, substantially-as described.
3. An improved heater, comprising a lower water-holding section containing a fire-pot, superposed water-holding sections pierced with smoke-fines and mounted on the lower section, interior connections between the front portions of the several sections, an exterior connection between the upper and lower sections only, and interior deflectingplates in the said water-holding sections whereby the water is given a tortuous course through them, substantially as described.
4. In a heater, the combination of the upper and lower water-holding sections indepen dently connected, of the intermediate water-holding sections connected together and with the upper and lower sections to provide water circulation, and deflecting-plates in said intermediate sections arranged opposite the connections between the sections, substantially as described.
5. A heater of the kind described, comprising a lower water-holding section having a fire-pot, a rear smoke-flue and an inclined defiectin g hollow wall between the smoke-flue and fire-pot, superposed water-holding sections on the lower section, said sections having smoke-fines adapted to connect with the fire-pot and with the first-mentioned smokefiue, a water-dome on the said sections, water connections between the said sections and the water-dome, interior deflecting-plates arranged within the intermediate sections and opposite the water connections, and an exterior connection between the'water-dome and thelower section, substantially as described.
6. A heater, comprising a series of superposed independent water-holding sections having suitable connections for circulation and for draft, means for heating the water, connections within the sections between all the said sections, and an exterior connection between the upper and lower sections, substantially as described.
