.IMPROVEMENT '1N BURGLAR man cuirs.
, To' ALL wHoM 1r MAY CoNoERN: l
- Be it known that I, P ETE SWISHEmof Versailles, in the countyof Darke, and'State of Ohio, have invented a new and; improved Burglar Alarm Gun; and I zio-hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enableothers vskilled in the art to make and use the same, referencefbeing had to 4the accompanying drawings, forming part 'of this specification, in whichi Figure 1 is a side view of my improved burglar alarm gun, partlyirr section.
Figure 2 is a topview of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Thisinvention relates to an improved compound gun, having several barrels', so connected'andarranged as to be ired simultaneously, and aiming-in different directions, as a defence against burglars It is designed 'to attach it to a` dooror window through which a burglar may enter,` the opening' of which door or'window will cause 'the trigger of the gunto be pulled,.and discharge it, when the explosion will alarm the'household and `probably shoot the burglar, as 'the barrels may be so placed as'to bring him in range at several points of entrance.- f
In the drawing, g. 1, is shown a gun or pistol, with three barrels, l, 2, The upper barrel, No.1, is permanently fixed upon, or forms a continuation of, an ironihandle or stock, A, with which it may be' fastened by a elainp, -r in any convenient manner, to `the door frame or-other object vwhere the gun may be required.
andin whichisthe lock for operating a' hammer, 1 5. The lock may be o f any ordinary construction. a is a "trigger, to spring the hammer, by means-of a. ywire attached to the door or window'to be'opened b y the burglar 5 bis the cap cone. A round ymetal. breech-pin, C, is screwed'rmly at right angles 'to the under-side of the breech of the barrel No. 1, in the middle of which pin is al small hole, c, runningA longitudinally, and communicating'withthe vent of Vthe upper barrel, No. 1. The two bar'rels, .Nos. 2 and 3, are fitted upon the breech-- fpin C', asa pivot ou which they turn around,to be 4placed atany point, land vvrange in dlbrent directions,as
desired for shooting, and are held in place upon the pinl .by a screwnut, @Lou the lower end of the pin, The'v bores m'm of the barrels 2I and?, extend back to the pivotil breech-pin C, and communicate with annular grooves, e c, on the periphery of the-pin, in line with them;l and the grooves -e. e communicate with the central longitudinal .hole c of the breech-pin by ,small transverse holes, n n, all of which grooves and holes inthe lbreech` pin C are priming or touch-holes, to be lled withI powder when the barrels are loaded.
The operation, or 'manner of ring all the barrels at once, in .whatever position the two 1owerones,2 Iand 3,
- may be Iplacedpen. the'bree'chpin C, is manifest, asthe bores m m are always in communication withthe annular grooves e c when-the barrels are revolved upouit, and the holes n n leading fromthe-,grooves connect with the f 4 central hole c, which communicateswith Athe vent of ,the uppcr'barreL'No. 1. V'.lhusthe 'train' of powder which lls them 'is red,and discharges all the barrels simultaneously, when thecap is exploded by the `hammer B.
' 0n thcside of the st o'ck A is fastened a small powder pan,.h, which communicates' with the vent of the upper barrel. It may'be-iilled with powder when the alorin gun is set, and a match' and candle so connected with it as to be lighted when the gun is fired.
Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure 'by LettersPatent- 1. In the construction of va. burglar alarm gun, the combination ofl the fixed barrel, No. 1, andthe revol v' . ing barrels 2 and 3, with the breech-pin C, for, firing simultaneously'in dierent directions, substantially as and for the purposes hereindescribed. 'Y
2. `I claim the breech-piaf), having the central longitudinal hole c, the transverse hole n, andthe annular. grooves `e, communicating with the vent of the 'upper barrel No'. 1, and the bores of the revolving barrels Nos:
2 and 3, all arranged and operated substantially as and for the purposes herein described.
3. I claim also,I tho outside powder panh, for lighting a candle or lamp when the gun is fired, in the man,- ner herein speeicd. P. SWISHIER;l Witnesses:
A. Swrsnnn, Devin Fumeurs.
