SYRINGE. Nu. 605,052. Patented May 31,1898..
' W Hrwa o C0014, I 4 b .6, 6, 77%6607?) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORATIO E. COOK, OF LAKE CITY, FLORIDA.
SYRlNGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 605,052, dated May 31, 1898.
Application filed February 14, 1898. Serial No. 670,266. (No model.)
To on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HORATIO E. 0001;, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake City, in the county of Columbia and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringe-Nozzles,of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to syringe-n ozzles more especially adapted for use as a rectal syringe; and the objects of my invention are to provide a syringe-nozzle adapted for use both as a douche-nozzle and as a medicine or lubricant carrier into the interior of a persons rectum, and principally also as an extractor of obstructions therefrom. I attain these objects by means of a nozzle illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side View of a syringe-nozzle constructed in accordance with my invention and shown connected to a flexible pipe and bulb of usualform. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, on a larger scale, of the nozzle, showing the interior of its open-top cavity. Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section of nearly the whole length of the nozzle. Fig. lis a transverse section of the nozzle through its opentop portion, as on line X X of Fig. 2.
In said drawings, A represents the inlettube, B the bulb or pump, provided with valves, as usual, at each end, and C the outlet-conduit. These parts are generally made of soft rubber, and to the outer end of the outlet 0 is secured, by any one of well-known a series of small perforations pointing forward in a directionsubstantially parallel with the axis of the nozzle, and a semicylindrical spoon-bowl E, having somewhat acute edges E sloping inwardly, as a spoon-curette, constituting an open-top receptacle about two inches long, or one third the length of the nozzle, to receive glycerin, Vaseline, or other lubricant at the time it is to be used in the rectum of patients afflicted with severe constipation, and this is used in connection with an injection of soapsuds or other liquid forced by means of the bulb B, said liquid passing beyond the obstruction as soon as a passage has been formed or cut through it by the acute edges of the spoon-curette E. The walls of the rectum being lubricated by the substance previously placed in the spooncurette and pressure being obtained by the soapsuds sprayed in the rear of the obstruction, the latter is promptly expelled.
To facilitate the handling and rotating of the spoon-curette nozzle, the latter ispreferably made longer than the douchenozzle generally used, and if made of larger diameter can be used with advantageas a vaginal nozzle carrying medicaments. v Having now fully described my invention, I c1aim 'A douche-curette nozzle for a syringe consisting of a tube D having a douche-point D of larger diameter than the body of said tube and provided with small perforations, and in the rear of said point D a semicylindrical opening, about one-third the length of the nozzle, the edges of said opening being sharpened substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORATIO E. COOK.
