Description

(No Model.)
- H. A. BELTZ.
FILE.
Patented Oct 12, 1 89? ggdmm ,4,-
Attorney V UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'HARVEY A. BELTZ, OF EVERETT, PENNSYLVANIA.
FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 591 ,448, dated October 12, 1897.
Application filed October 29, 1896. Serial No. 610,494. (N modeLl To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY A. BELTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everett, in the county of Bedford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files; and I do herevby declare the following to be a full, clear,
- tral vertical section of a standing paper-file constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section. of'a hanging paper-file constructed in accordance with this invention.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates the filing-tube, and 2 the needle. The said needle is adapted to enter the tube 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The end of the tube 1 is reduced and is provided at each side with a slot 3 to permit the ends to open and close to a certain extent. The needle 2 is provided with a pointed lower end 3 and a tapered head 4. In the rear of the head is a shoulder 5 about the size of the reduced end of the tube, so that'when the needle stands within the tube in the position shown within Figs. 1
and 3 a small and even joint is made between these parts.
As shown in Fig. 3, the-lower end of the tube 1 is joined to a hanging plate 6, by means of which the file can be hung on the wall.
\Vhen in use, the needle stands within the tube in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to permit the paper to be stuck thereon, and when it is intended to remove a certain paper the'needle is withdrawn to a certain extent and all of the papers above the one to be removed are moved onto the needle, whereupon the needle is removed from the tube, and after the desired paper is taken away the pointed lower end 3 of the needle is forced in through the upper end of the tube and then the papers are moved back upon the tube and the needle forced downwardly until its shoulder comes in contact with the upper springjaws of the tube.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- V A file consisting of a tube having a reduced and slotted end portion, and a needle having a pointed lower end, tapering head and a shoulder between the main portion of the needle and the said tapering head.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. HARVEY A. BELTZ.
