Description

(No-Model.)
A. MGMEEKIN. SWEATBAND.
No. 591,289. Patented'Oot. 5.1897
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM MOMEEKIN, OF DOAGH, IRELAND.
SWEAT-BAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 591,289, dated October 5, 1897.
Application iiled February 13, 1897. Serial No. 623,302. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM MOMEEKIN, a subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Cogry Mills, Doagh, in the county of Antrim, Ireland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sweat-Bands for Hats, Caps, and other Head- Coverings, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to an improvement in sweat-bands for hats, caps, and other headcoverings; and it consists in a new arrangement or combination of an air-tube with a sweat-band whereby an improved form of yielding band is obtained which will enable the hat to fit easily on the head and present a sightly appearance in the interior.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate some forms of my invention, Figure l is a sectional end view of a sweat-band constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of same on a smaller scale. Fig. 3 is a back view of same.
According to my invention I combine with the band 3 an elastic air-tube l, or it may be more than a single tube, which is inclosed in a bag or casing 2, of woven fabric or of thin leather, secured to the lower margin of the sweat-band 3, so that the tube and bag are supported at the back of the band. VSuch tube 1 may be of round, oblong, or other suitable section.
To form what is known as brachering or a border or finish to a sweat-band, it is frequently customary to employ a thin fiber of and the bag, including the liber 2 and airtube 1, is secured to the band by the line of stitching 6, which stitching may be employed for securing the band in the hat, or a separate stitching may be employed for this purpose.
To produce a neat appearance inside the hat, I prefer to stamp or shape the bands 3 so that a swelled portion 8 is formed thereon, in the inside of which the bag 2 seats itself.
What I claim is- In a sweat-band, the combination with the band, of a thin strip of eXible material having its edges folded upon itself longitudinally and secured by a line of stitches, forming a larger and a smaller fold in said strip; an inflatable tube inclosed inthe larger of said folds; a strip of fiber inclosed within the smallerof said folds; and a line of stitching securing said folded strip to the edge of said band, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADAM MCMEEKIN.
