Beit known that LWVILLIAM J. GOOCH,a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Simpson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Kitchen-Cabinet, of which the following is a specification I v This invention relates to kitchen-cabinets;

and it has for its object to provide a cabinet of this character constructed with reference to durability and a convenient arrangement of parts to provide for keeping stored, in good condition, a large varietyof kitchen'and table articles. A

tVith these and other objects in view,which will readily appear as the nature of the inventioo is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully'described, illustrated, and claimed.

Below the central horizontal partition 2 the lower portion of the hollow base of the cabinet is subdivided into a pair of large compartments 8by a central vertical partition-plate 9, said large compartments 8 being conveniently used, respectively, for bread and cake and being inclosed attheir front open sides by a single door 10, extending the entire length of the base and hinged at its upper edge, as at 11, to the front side of the base, immediately below the lower edgesof the front doors 5 for the upper tier of compartments 4 within the hollow base.

The sifter attachment 16 es sentially comprises a circular frame 17, having a contracted lower portion 18 and an upwardly-disposed flange 19, adapted to embrace the depending supportingflange l5 and provided in its edge with a plurality of spaced L-shaped notches 20, adapted to be turned into and out of locking engagement with a plurality of supporting-studs 21, fitted to the flange 15 and projected across the space between such flange and the body of the bin, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings, there being the same number of studs 21 as notches 20. To provide for disconnecting the sifter frame or rim 17 from the depending supportingflange 15 Within the-'lower open end of each of the large bins, it is simply necessary to turn the said frame or rim 17 to permit of the disengagement of the notches 20 from the studs.

Each sifter attachment 16 has fitted within the circular frame or rim 17thereof a horizontal Sifter-screen 22, of suitable mesh and fastened at its edges to the frame or rim 17 in any suitable manner, and arranged below the sifter-screen 22 is a transverse brace-bar 23, extending diametrically across the space within the frame or rim 17 and serving as a brace to support the screen 22 and prevent sagging thereof, and said transverse bracebar 23 is provided therein centrally between its ends with a circular pivot-opening 24, loosely receiving thereinthe circular pivotstud 25, (see Fig. 12,) projected centrally from the under side of a circular skeleton agitator-grating 26.

Between the oppositely-located large bin 12 and 13 and on top of the hollow base 1 of the cabinet is formed a compartment-casing 35, having therein parallel with its front and rear walls a central vertical partition 36, having its vertical side edges meeting the bodies of the bins 12 and 13, and said partition 36, with the rear wall of'the casing 35, forms a rear upright sugar bin or compartment 37, having a top opening 38, inelosed by the removable cover or cap 39, and the lower open end of the bin or compartment 37 communicates with the central one of the compartments 4, within which compartment is arranged an inclined deflecting-plate 40, terminating short of the partition 2 and disposed partition-plates 41, forming 'therebetween -a' centrally located canister compartment 42 and next to the bins 12 and 13 the oppositely-10- cated interior bins 43, provided at their upper ends with top openings inelosed by the screwcaps 44. The oppositely located interior bins 43 have fitted to their lower end the lat-' erally-deflected discharge-spouts 44, (see Fig. 11,) having fitted therein the cut-off slides 45, said discharge-spouts 4'4 projecting through the side walls of a collecting-compartment 46, formed centrally Within thefront lower portionof the casing 35 and inelosed at its front open, side by a hinged door 47, said compartment 46 being designed to receive a cup or vessel when it is desired to collect maierial such as rice, oatmeal, or the like-from either of the bins 43.

at the front side of the bins 12 and 13, are" oppositely-located upright circular bin-casings 48, forming a .pair of oppositely-located front auxiliary bins 49, adapted to hold Graham flour, hominy, or some similar material, and at their upper ends the front bins 19 are provided with top openings inclosed by the screw-caps 50. At their lower ends the bins 49 are provided with depending dischargespouts 51, having fitted therein the cut-off slides 52 and projecting into the compartments 4, below the bins 12 and 13, to provide convenient means for collecting material from the bins 49 in a suitable vessel or receptacle introduced into the compartments 4 below the large bins.

The front wall-of the compartment-casing 35 is provided with a vertical series of circular canister-openings 53, from the lower sides of which openings project supporting-strips 54, extended inwardly within the canistercompartment 42 and providingsupports for the circular canisters 55, removably inserted through the openings 53. The canisters 55 are designed to hold different kinds of spices and are of different sizes, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and certain or all ofthe canisters may be constructed as illustrated in Fig. 9 of the drawings, in which the canister essentially comprises a cylindrical body 56, provided at one end with an inturned threaded flange 57, formed with a circular opening 58 and adapted to removably receive therein a dished bottom cap 59, having a threaded flange 60, engaging the flange 57, and a transverse finger-piece 61, which is grasped by the thumb and fingerof 'the hand to provide for removing or replacing the bottom cap, which bottom cap when removed allows the canister to be readily filled or large quantities of the spice or other materials to be emptied therefrom. At its end opposite the removable bottom cap the canister-body 56 is provided with a threaded top neck having removably fitted thereon a screw-cap 63, provided with a finger-knob 64, which knob is grasped to not only remove and replace the cap 63, but also in removing and replacing the canisters in the cabinet." The large upright cylindrical bin 12 has fitted within one side thereof a vertical partition 78, (see Fig. 13,) forming within the bin 12 a side coffee-compartment 79, inclosed at its open upperend within the upper end of the bin 12 by a hinged door-plate 80, and within the dower portion thereof the side coffee-compartment 7 9 hasfitted therein a laterally and downwardly inclined chute-plate 81, provided near its lower edge with a feedopening 82, communicating with the coffeemill compartment 83, formed within the compartment 79, below the chute-plate 81 there:

The compartment83, in which the coffeemill is arranged, is open at its side, and this open side is inclosed by a detaohable side plate 87, removably fitted at its upper edge under a retaining-flange 88, secured on theexterior of the bin 12, and detachably engaged or at its opposite side edges by suitable turnbu'ckles 89, pivoted to the bin-body 12, the

The other large upright bin 13 has fitted within the upper part thereof a transverse tubular casing 93, formed in its lower side with a slot 94 and having slidably mounted therein a scales-supporting rod or bar 95, provided at its outer end with a hook 96, designed to support an ordinary pair of scales or spring-balances. At its inner end the rod 95 is provided'with a stop-lug 97, working in the s1ot,94, to limit the inward and outward movement of the rod, it being understood that when the rod is not in use the same is moved inward to the position illustrated in Fig. 10.

To complete the cabinet, the compartmentcasing 35 supports thereon between the bins 12 and 13 a crest-piece 98, having a circular clock-casing 99, inclosed at its rear side bya detachable cap 100, providing means for removably holding therein an ordinary circular clock.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein-described different parts of'the kitchen-cabinet will be readily apparent without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing'from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by LettersPatent, is-

1. In a kitchen-cabinet, a hollow base portion formed with compartments therein, an

upright bin-body arran'gedbn top of the 1101- low base and-communicating with one of-the compartments thereof at its lower end, said bin-body being provided within the lower open end portion thereof with a depending supporting-flange and a circular series of supporting-studs projected across the space between such flange and the body of the bin, a sifter frame or rim provided with an upwardly-disposed flange embracing said depending s'upporting-flange and provided in its edge with a plurality of notches adapted to detachably interlock with said supportingst'uds, a horizontal sifter-screen fitted within the sifter frame or rim, a transverse brace-- bar arranged directly under the sifter-screen The detachable side plate of the cofieeand provided with a centrally-located pivotopening, a circular skeleton agitator-grating arranged on top of the sifter-screen and provided with a central depending pivot-stud working in the opening of said brace-bar, and a laterally-swinging lever -arm detachably connected at its inner end with the pivotstud of the grating and having-its outer end projected through and working in a slot formed in the wall of the bin-body, substantially as set forth,

2. In a kitchen-cabinet, the combination with an upright compartment-casing provided with an upright canister-compartment and a plurality of canister-openings communicating with such compartment; of the spicecanisters, each comprising a cylindrical body provided at one end with an inturned threaded flange and at its opposite end with an interior sifting-screen plate and a threaded top neck, a screw-cap fitted on the threaded top neck of the canister-body, and a dished bottom cap having a threaded flange engaging the inturned threaded flange of the canister-body, and a transverse finger-piece, substantially as set forth.

3. In a kitchen-cabinet, the combination with an upright casing having a drawer-opening; of a grater-drawer adapted to be fitted in said drawer-opening and provided with a 95 hinged cover-plate at its upper side, a grating plate fitted transversely within the graterdrawer, a laterally-movable hopper-boxslidably fitted on said grating-plate and provided with an offstandin g cylindrical spring-barrel, a follower-plate mounted to work within said hopper-box, and a spring arranged within said barrel at one side of the follower-plate, substantially as set forth.

'4. In a kitchen-cabinet, the combination of an upright bin-bod y having a vertical partition therein forming a side cofiee-compartment provided Within the lower portion thereof with a laterally and downwardly inclined chute-plate having therein a feed-opening, no the space below said chute-plate forming a coffee-mill compartment to hold an ordinary coffee-mill, and open at its side, a side plate .detachably fitted over the open side of the coffee-mill compartment and provided at its 11 5 lower edge with an inwardly-disposed integral tray'plate having a bottom discharge slot or opening and formed with a flared collectingtray, and a coffee-drawer removably mounted within the lower part of the coffee-mill com- :20 partment below said tray-plate, substantially as set forth.
